Jukebox's QNX and some realplayer questions
Love it, a few questions

I got Jukebox's QNX image installed on Audrey yesterday. VERY nice to have a real OS, real voyager, etc. A few questions:

My main motivation for trying this image was the hope that a full version of realplayer might play some of the radio stations I'd like to listen to. No dice. I'm getting the same buffering to 99% and freezing that I saw with a vanilla Audrey. SOME streaming realaudio stations work. Some don't.

First question: does anyone have a hack that would let me listed to the realaudio at (for example) www.kuow.org? (Click the Listen Now) link at the top. Be prepared to reboot your audrey after it hangs.

First question, part II: If there is no known hack that might allow me to listen to this site, can anyone recommend a station for NPR news and programs (Prairie home companion!) that DOES work with Audrey? I've tried dozens, and had to pull the power cord each time after realplayer froze (using the near-vanilla Audrey).

Question two (mostly unrelated to question 1): If I don't want Voyager to start upon rebooting (using the jukebox2.cf image), how do I stop it? What file do I edit? Ditto for mail. I looked at go and boot.sh, but that didn't seem to be the right place..?

Thanks!

Csari,

I couldn't have believed it would happen, but mine hung on KUOW's website, too! I don't have Jukebox's image on my Audrey (tried it, but decided I wanted the Datebook too badly!) so that's not the problem. Some stations have way too fast a data stream for Audrey to deal with, I guess. I've found that anything with RealPlayer 5 or lower works fine, its iffy on anything above that.

For a good station that will probably work, go to www.wpr.org (Wisconsin Public Radio) there are a couple of links that serve Version 5 of RealPlayer, and you might find what you're looking for there. Also, I listen to NPR jazz a lot, I have bookmarked www.nprjazz.org/stations and there is a link to state-by-state lists of jazz stations. Tapping on a state starts you on the part of the list for that state, but you can scroll up or down to all the others. Many don't work (don't even bother with the Windows media sites!) but here is a list of those that will, by state: CA: KCLU, IL: WGLT (S), KS: KANU (S), MD: WEAA (S), NJ: WBGO (S), NY: WBFO, OH: WMUB (S), PA: WRTI (S), and WA: KPLU. The (S) stands for stereo. Sometimes the stereo stations get a bit fuzzed up, especially when I'm running a lot of stuff through my PC, too, I have a router hooked up with only dialup access.

Perhaps NPR has a list of state-by-state stations for the Prarie Home Companion and those things you've been looking for.

What I did for voyager was replacing the Browser file with a Browser script that starts voayger and keeps the functionality from the Browser button alive. I have never looked at which file executes Browser at boot time in Audrey.
However when you rename the Browser script Audrey will not start voyager anymore. To run voyager you will have to change the command line in shelf with the new script name and you can start voyager still from shelf. I don't know if you will get other problems doing all this.
Your other question about RealPlayer may be solved by checking in Windows what exactly happens when you click on the links from the radio stations you want to hear. I found out that by making a preset based on the info I got from Windows I got stations to work that didn't when you clicked on their link in voyager. There are a couple of scripts in wm.menu that work this way.

In a previous post I was more specific about the RealAudio problem on some sites:

I came to the conclusion that it must be possible to create presets to start realaudio on different streaming realaudio sources.
With my Windows PC I found out that 2 types of connections are made via Explorer, with and without cgi-bin in the command line.
Connections without cgi-bin can be written in a script on the Audrey, while the others need a disconnect from the network, what will result
in a dialog with a more specific disconnect text about the connection. The latter should be used in a script and not the cgi-bin stuff.

Here are 2 examples of scripts I wrote to start streaming realaudio in Audrey with realplayer as a stand alone application. To execute them
from the application panel or wm.menu you will have to use "execv".

This one is a straight http command line:
#!/bin/sh
kojak-realplayer -P voyager.server http://www.radio10.nl/live40.ram

This one needed the network disconnect to find out the right syntax, since http included a cgi-bin:
#!/bin/sh
kojak-realplayer -P voyager.server rtsp://streams.omroep.nl/rnw/nederlands/nederland/1930.ra

If you can make a preset script that works, the next step is to add the station to your hotlist in the RealPlayer. Of course this post was related to the old Browser, but that shouldn't make a difference for voyager. The problem is in the cgi-bin links.
