| Adam, a goodly number of Audreys were made with a "demo only" mode, for use as demonstrators in store displays. A seller on eBay got hold of a number of these, and sold them, remarking that "they turn on". Of course, they are worthless for surfing the Internet, doing real email, organizer, etc. They can be fixed by a flash from a CF, it was a good thing only the firmware was "crippled" (probably to prevent theft loss and/or to keep the demo models from being sold and undercutting good ones?) and not the hardware. I personally know of three people who have been able to fix their demo Audreys with a CF flash.
Pete, I'm mystified what you think might be in there that's worth saving. It is likely less interesting than a screen saver! I've never seen a demo mode Audrey up close, what features does it appear to offer that a normal functioning Audrey does not? Hunter112 | |
