I've been reading the many posts about folks using an USB to ethernet adapter to connect Audreys to either Home Lans or cable modems using RJ45 type plugs. My cable modem has a USB connector and I've tried to get it to talk to the audrey that way. It looks like from many of the posts that unless the cable modem has a special 3com type hardware built-in this isn't going to work.
This approach does require DHCP settings -- so this is probably the other problem, since I haven't been able to get it going. I'm ready to buy the adapter -- my modem also has an RJ45 plug. Just wanted to be sure I've got the issue straight -- I'm new to this audrey sutff.
Wasn't thinking about USB driver issue, that of course makes total sense -- I'm gonna order the USB/ethernet adapter in the next day or two. Working via my Home LAN is way to go.
