Ok just one more post =) A Littl ebackground on how and why. Theaudrey is great but it's too small to comfertably work on. plus the keyboard can be flaky and it made learning a new os all that more hard! So i have installed QNX 6.1 on my desktop. (BTW i am liking is so much i have not even thought about booting up my windows system)

When i was dinging int he install repositoys i noticed that m Systems makes a QNX driver for the audrey. This will mount a Dik On Key USB keychain drive to a QNX system. If this drive can be used on the audrey, you could plug in a drive up to 512 MB on the audrey. So far m systems only makes a 128 MB drive but they have plans up toi 512 MB or more.

Any one have thoughts? I have have both a 16 and 64 MB dick on key drive (i also have a Easy disk and flash Dio) So i plan to work on this myseklf. So far i have been having problems geting USB to work on my desktop installation so if you can help with that then i may be able to stumble my way to making this work on the audrey.

all Packages / Device Specific / Storage System

The driver was in there.

This driver is also included in the RTP 6.0 as the M Systems Disk on Chip Driver. It will work on Audrey with QNX 6.0 libs too.
Hope you succeed to get this to work, would be great.

Did you try already plugging in the Disk on Key in the USB slot and run the driver devb-doc? I see no reason why this wouldn't work in Audrey.

OK i think i got the driver loaded but no luck so far.

You need to load the LIB libcam.so.1 to the audrey at /nto/lib/libcam.so.1 and the driver can be loaded from any place. the driver says its loaded but it can't detect any devices.

I'm not going to rule this out just yet. I am far to inexperiance in QNX to say i did it right for sure.

I got the same result without the Keychain Drive plugged in USB, because I don't have one.. What could help is plugging in the drive, unplug Audrey, reboot and try to load devb-doc driver again.

ok i plugged in my DoK 64MB drive and un-pluged the audrey. I waited about 1 min then plugged it back in. jumped into shell and ran the driver and i think it loaded

"DiskonChip driver ver 4.2.0"

But i still get the error "No doc interface found"

This makes me think it's not looking for the jeychain drive it's looking for some kind of adapter like the USB hub or PC Rrd slot. dosen;t sound like it's looking for the drive.

You could be right, some other driver or maybe you have to mount the drive. Most of the time I don't know what I'm doing. However if I get something to work on the RTP, and that may be easier here too, I use psin (Neutrino Sin!) to figure out what's involved running something by clicking on the running app. first and the Mem tab second. I hope some of the QNX gurus on this BBS will figure out what to do next. I'm convinced this can work on Audrey.

I did some reading on the internet about this device. Drivers are brand specific, so this driver will probably only work with M-Systems Keychain Disk.
My best bet would be to get it to work on the RTP first, since devb-eide is running there already. Probably that driver is necessary too, to view this compact flash device as a disk.
Because it is a compact flash device devb-cf may play a role too.
Hope this information leads you somewhere.

I ordered an 8MB version 1 from Buy Direct, $29.95. My guess is this oldest version will match the driver the best and it's no big deal if it doesn't work. If it does, an 8MB expansion for Audrey will do a lot!

Before everyone goes out and buys Disk on Keys, please realize that the driver included with QNX 6.0 is for a Disk on CHIP, not for Disk on KEY. There is a huge difference. DoCs are attached to an ISA bus, not USB. The driver may be useful however, since there is DIP footprint on the Audrey that is probably a DoC socket. If you want to see the difference between a DoC and a DoK, go to m-sys.com and read up.

Please let me know if the driver in 6.1 is also for Disk on Key. I would bet not though, DoKs are still pretty new

Probably a little off the current topic, but I think it'd be more interesting to have an Audrey driver for say the USB SanDisk CF reader. There are Linux drivers for that. Yeah, I know Audrey already has a CF slot, but I've been left with the impression it might actually be harder to do a driver to access files on the built in slot than say a plug-in USB reader. It is probably a cheaper per megabyte solution too, than other USB flash memory options.

Anyhow, in the long run, I'd still love to have an app where I can stick in a CF card with digital pictures on it straight from a camera, have Audrey automagically recognize that, and display them like a digital picture frame.

The Disk on a Key Chain is a cf card with a built in CPU, therefore you can skip the reader. Anyhow, the problem is how do we get a driver for either one, ported to QNX in Audrey?

I got my Disk on a Keychain today, but as I expected it does nothing on Audrey or the QNX RTP. I will install the driver in the coming days on my Linux box and see what happens there exactly.
I wonder who made the Disk on a Chip driver for QNX. Whoever that may be, he or she probably knows how to make a driver for this Keychain disk.

I just tried this Disk on a Keychain in Windows ME. It is recognized as a mass storage device and Windows tries to install a driver, but none is needed. It appears in the Device list with a question mark, but it does work normal.
It has to be recognized and accepted by the system and from there on the built in CPU takes care of the rest.
This could be even more interesting for Audrey than I already thought.

I just got an answer on my email to M-Systems about QNX support for the Disk on Key. This is the answer:

" A source code package has been planned to release to those that would like to create solutions. At this time I don't have enough information, although I will forward your information to the appropriate contacts and get back with you once I find out."

This may work after all for Audrey.

Jukebox,

I called M Systems yesterday and i got the sae answer. He said the source should be released some time around 3rd quorter. I did call Nexware Corp about the audrey with a few quests and i was given some very positive info. I don't want to get any ones hopes up, but i'll give a summery.

Novagate helped in creating the interface for the audrey and suplied the drivers in use today. They created MANY drivers and aplications that were not released becasue of many restrictions in space, time, and 3 com restrictions. At this time they are still under contract from 3 com to not release this material but they are not making provsions to contact 3 Com and request they remove the restictions so they can help support this comunity.

One of the drivers they have is one that will alow you to mount a CF card as an actual drive on the audrey. They hinted that there ws more they had created but didn't give any details. I can understand thair concern, you don't want to mess with a client as big as 3 Com.

Finaly there was intrest expressied in porting the drive for the USB ketychain to QNX but becasue of the preexistance of a CF driver this ay not be nessesery.

We certainly don't want to bug anyone to death, but if we could make it apparent how many interesed people there are it might help.

After reading this info I think a company without any ties to 3COM like M-Systems could be our best bet. They have a genuine interest to promote the sales of their new product. We may be able to do something to speed up the release of the source code for the Disk on Key.
Another source for drivers might be sourceforge.net. Anybody knows people there? I think they can do it.
On the side, I had the Disk on Key in Linux last night. It was detected and mounted as usbdevfs in /proc/bus/usb. I think 2 drivers were involved, hub and usb-storage. I still think there is a possibility that someone can port those drivers to QNX.

In an earlier reply here I mentioned two drivers used in Linux for the Disk on Key: usb-storage and hub. I think the equivalent drivers in QNX are also available: usb and devu-ohci.The problem is I can't find them in the RTP, while they are available for QNX 6.0. With these drivers in Audrey she sould at least recognize the Disk on Key as a Mass Storage USB device from M-Systems and it could be possible to mount the drive if the file system from the Disk on Key is standard.
Anybody has an idea where to find these 2 drivers for a start?

It helps if you have a boot floppy for RTP 6.1, however that doesn't come with the upgrade... So I'm back again, but the nfsd doesn't work yet, so I'm still handicaped for the time being.
The good news is the Disk on Key is accepted now! Run devu-ohci or devu-uhci (depends on your USB controller and Audrey will need devu-ohci). Run usb next and Disk on Key is available for mounting! I haven't been able to do this in Audrey yet, and don't know about compatibility of these drivers in 6.0. I believe they are.
The Disk on Key comes dos32 formatted out of the factory and I don't see why it can't be mounted. We're almost there I hope.

Audrey appears to have these files already, but stripped down, usb-ohci and dusb instead of devu-ohci and usb. They recognize only the usb devices as mentioned in the specs from Audrey.
I replacd these files to find out the new ones are QNX6.1. The good news is that if we get this to work this is a non issue, because we will end up with tons of extra storage with the Disk on Key working.
For now the easiest would be to get this to work with a mounted Disk on Key drive in the RTP 6.1. If that works Audrey can be totally upgraded.
Hope this info will help some other people here to work on this project too.

Interesting ... my Zio CF reader is also a USB SCSI drive ... and so is my portable MP3 jukebox ... I am wondering if they all share the same low-level interface? Solving this problem may open up a lot of devices, not just the Disk on Key. I haven't tried any of this out since I don't have a Disk on Key to play with, but hopefully I'll have some time to play around with my other devices, this all might come together.

This is the procedure to setup the Disk on Key in Linux and without a doubt the same will go for QNX. I was able to do part of this in Linux RH7.1:
1. Detect device (done in QNX 6.1 too)
2. Set partitions or format mode (done in Linux, I have set the mode to QNX 4.x)
3. Format the drive with a file system.(not done yet)
4. mount the drive
5. access the drive for read/write.
So I'm about half way now. How can I get a QNX file system on this device? I'll double check on Linux but I don't think I can format for QNX, nor do I know how to create a file system in QNX. Any suggestions what procedure can be folowed to format any drive in QNX?
I think when the drive is formatted properly it can be mounted in QNX too.

I have asked M-Systems again for help. I read in the documentation for Linux to setup a dos file system after deleting and creating a new partion and that maybe the route to go for QNX too. I noticed on a new QNX 6.1 setup Dos32 drives on the same PC are mounted automatically in QNX. So this may work with the Disk on Key also and I may not need a QNX file system after all.
Hope to know more tomorrow.

I agree with you. And here is the final hurdle, we need a device, in this case a scsi device, probably /dev/sda to use fdisk and create a partition /dev/sda1. Linux has something like a USB file device driver and a scsi disk driver compatible with this Disk on Key. I don't think any of those is available in QNX at this time.

Sorry to jump in...just thought I'd throw this out there. I found this internet appliance that France Telecom uses for their minitel service. It runs QNX and supports two fully compliant USB ports. I emailed ComOne to see if they were available in the U.S.--with the idea that if I could get one, their configuration files could be invaluable. Well they don't distribute them in the U.S., Asia, or Europe. However they did say that I could buy direct from them for USD$476 +shipping. Sorry if this has no relevance...I don't know enough to be dangerous yet--my Audreys will begin arriving this week.

Interesting information, but Audrey has 2 USB ports too. The problem at this point is to find the correct device driver to create a device for the Disk on Key. If that works we can use fdisk too set the right partition format and file system.
I studied all available scsi drivers in QNX and found one that might work: devb-aha2. It is an ISA scsi and single chip scsi driver that happens to do pci scsi also. This driver seems to load with a pid in both the QNX RTP and Audrey with the Disk on Key plugged in.
So far however I don't see a scsi device like /dev/sda appear in either one.
All other available scsi drivers don't do anything anywhere with the Disk on Key plugged in. Maybe this devb-aha2 needs a little hack or so, but that's beyond my scope.

UPDARE:

Jukebox I am about as far along as you are so far. I created the partition with a QNX4.X ID but no luck with formating or mounting it on the audrey. I'll keep you posted if i have any luck. DoK has sent me a 128Mb review samble plus i have a 64 MB and a 16 Mb unit. If only i could get this to work at least i can have a few projects going on at once as i get this all sorted out.
