Software Update on New Audrey

Can't seem to make it work. I have the ethernet connected and can browse the internet. I follow instructions in the FAQ (3rdmoon), but does not seem to work. Some wierd things

1. Audrey does not seem to be able to get the time from the internet. The FAQ makes it sound like the DNS should be set before the Audrey checks the time, but I could not get to the n/w settings screen till after the setup (during which it tries to update the time)

2. The activity light on my adapter seems to stay on (flashing every few seconds) even when the Audrey is in sleep mode. Could this be due to other network traffic (I'm doing this at work, will try at home later).

Any help will be grately appreciated

Updating Audrey

1) Select : About Audrey – Profile
Copy down the following information
Ip Address
Netmask
Gateway
Domain Name Servers
DNS1
DNS2

2) When done with that go back into Audrey Options – Internet Settings – advanced information.
Uncheck – Use PPP/DHCP
Now enter the information you copied down into the appropriate slots except change Primay DNS and Secondary DSN both to 66.17.16.112 then select done. Now turn off Audrey and unplug for 30 seconds.

3) When power up Audrey enter time info and make sure you can still browse the Internet.
4) Now select Audrey Options then Download Schedule uncheck Broadband, I delete all the times in the 5 boxes, then set a time in the first box for 5 minutes for now, select done, turn off Audrey and wait. It should start updating in 5 to 8 minutes.
5) After update is done you should now be able to force updates with the so called 3 finger salute.
6) Remember to switch back the DNS back to original addresses after all updates complete (the same as you changed them in step 2).

I have the same problem I''ve been working on for three days.
#1 on the original os "Domain Name Servers" isn't an option you get that after an upgrade.
#2 I can't delete the download times. If you enter spaces or "0" and click done it freezes until you click something else then when you go back the same times are in (no change).

#3 Two Audreys side by side, one four months old, updated, hacked. One stock OS, (referb). Same data, hooked up to the same router, rebooted at the same time, reset router.
Old one resolves marimba.3com.com to 66.17.16.112, the new one has a DNS error.
Old one gets time from internet, New one I have to enter manually every time.
They both surf fine, and access mail.

Plan for the future, but live each day as if it's your last.

I am having the same problem.

I got my first Audrey recently and have been trying unsuccessfully to update it from 1.00.17.01. I've tried every variation on the instructions I can think of and it just won't go. I think the most useful bit of troubleshooting data I can come up with is this...

http://66.17.16.112 successfully loads the page.
http://marimba.3com.com and http://3com.marimba.net both give me DNS errors.

I'm using 66.17.16.112 as the DNS servers.

I've now tried 3 different networks... my home DSL, my corporate network at work, and an "external" network at work (outside our firewall). All give me DNS errors.

I've tried both static IP and dynamic IP on all three networks and I still get DNS errors.

I'm very excited to play with my new toy... but also incredibly frustrated.
Any suggestions???

PS--Please also reply to mguntow@microsoft.com if feasible. Thanks!

I know this is not much help with regard to the network dilemma but, I would strongly urge anyone owning an Audrey to get the Compact flash and reader as part of their toolkit. I waited and as a result, was left with a dead Audrey for 2 days after a misplaced command in /kojak/go startup file. I got a 32 meg Lexar CF and a USB reader for about $50.00 at CompUSA and was able to write an image using my WinXP computer. Subsequently I reflashed my Audrey witha good image and was back up and running in about an hour. You both mioght try this method as a way to upgrade your systems. CSaenz you could backup the updated system to the CF and then use it to Update the problem child. You won't even need a Windows machine to do this. I am not sure if either of you are running your network through a broadband router but I was when I did my update via the Internet. I made sure to change the DNS settings in the router as well as the Audrey machines and the Updates went fine. I am running DHCP Server inside and client outside the router.

I hope this helps

Totally agree with Javamanh. I had a hard time flashing my first Audrey with new S/W but finally succeeded. The second one would just not go through. Finally bought a compact flash card and usb reader. Turns out you don't need the reader as long as you can get your Audrey on the net. You can put the CF card in the Audery, download the image from the internet, and "cat" it to the card on teh Audrey. Teen pull out the card, shut off audrey, put card back in, and flash the new software (power on while pressing the power and datbook key).

My advise... even if you don't have a home network, invest in a hub instead of the CF reader (though I assume a crossover cable should work too).

I dont know if this has been mentioned but rebooting the gateway/modem seemed to help with the DNS errors. My setup is: Telocity DSL, to HomeConnect router to usb adapter to Audrey). I’ve got the DNS IP in the Audrey and router. I killed a few hours last night trying to do this without rebooting the modem.
