I just got shell and now I'm trying to edit the channels . I created a graphic gif and put it on an ftp but I also would like to create a index.shtml file but I have no idea how to. I know that's pretty lame but I'm a total newbie to HTML and UNIX. Could someone please create me a index.shtml file with this www address: http://www.lotteryusa.com/lottery/MI/MI_fcur.html
send it my way to bikerfromx@yahoo.com
I'd like to study it so I can make others for the other channels.
Thanks alot in advance!

Hey,...all html files are basically text files with a differrnt extension
You can create the index.shtml on your audrey. Use VI or whatever text editor you have. Create a new file and name it index.shtml
Now if you want to make a link to that url the code is:
<a href=http://www.YOURURLHERE.com>Text here for the link<a>

Just in case you did not know the standard hardcoded format for websites in the index.shtml it is:

<html><body>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" Content="0;URL=http://www.Your Site Here.com/">
</body></html>

Maybe if I told you the steps I'm taking to update a channel you could look them over and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Being new to UNIX I think it's the spaces that get me. Example: cd(SPACE)/data/XML/Channels So I will type (SPACE) where I think it's appropriate.

1.Enter the shell
2.TYPE: cd(SPACE)/data/XML/Channels PRESS ENTER
3.TYPE: mkdir(SPACE)MyNewChannel (or whatever you want to call it) PRESS ENTER
4.TYPE: mkdir(SPACE)MyNewChannel/.template PRESS ENTER
5.TYPE: mkdir(SPACE)MyNewChannel/Graphic PRESS ENTER
6.ftp a new 120x60 graphic icon named Graphic.gif into MyNewChannel/Graphic
7.TYPE: vi(SPACE)MyNewChannel/.template/index.shtml PRESS ENTER
8.TYPE: i (to enter insert mode) DO NOT PRESS ENTER
9.TYPE: <html><body><meta(SPACE)HTTP-EQUIV="refresh"(SPACE)Content="0;URL=http://www.Your Site Here.com/"></body></html> PRESS ENTER
(I type it as one long continuous line with the Spaces put in where noted)
10.TYPE: ESC key PRESS ENTER
11.TYPE: ZZ PRESS ENTER
12. Close the shell by clicking on the little square in the upper right hand corner.
13. Reboot Audrey

In step 9 is that a zero or a capital O after Content=" ?
In step 10 do I type ESC key or press SnapShot on the keyboard?

Whoops, I accidently read off of two different sets of instructions and intertwined them both starting at step 10

Here are the correct steps from 10 and up

10. TYPE: rm(SPACE).ChannelXX (with 'XX' whatever channel number to use; such as 01,02)
11. TYPE: ln(SPACE)-s(SPACE)/data/XML/Channels/MyNewChannel(SPACE).ChannelXX (with 'XX' as above)
12. Close the shell by clicking on the little square in the upper right hand corner.
13. Shutdown Audrey

After I type the HTML code in step 9 and then press enter do I go right ahead and start typing Step 10 or do I somehow have to leave that vi mode?

IN Step 11 is that a numeral one or lower case L in the beginning?

Sorry for the dumbass questions but ya gotta start somewhere...

You are almost there. The final step is to link the directory you created to a .Channelxx where xx is the position number on the icon filmstrip below. if you do a ln -l .Ch* in the /data/XML/Channels directory you will see as an example the links from .Channel01 to ABCNews. This means that the 2nd icon on the icon filmstrip will be ABCNews website. if you do an rm .Channel01 and then ln -s /data/XML/Channels/MYNewChannel .Channel01 you will remove and then recreat a new soft link from .Channel01 to MyNewChannel. I was lazy and just used the existing directories. I did an rm -D .template then a mkdir .template and then created a new index.shtml in the newly created .template This eliminated the need for me to remove and relink. Oh yeh I downloaded the new Graphic as well.

Hope this Helps
