Execute apps from a "Windows" share

New MessageExecute apps from a "Windows" share (modified 0 times) davistw1

Can I create a "bin" folder on my windows share, put the location in the "path" and put some of the bigger apps there to slim down my Audrey? If so what are the ramifications if the share all the sudden goes away or isn't mounted at bootup? Will my Audrey lock up or will it just not be able to find the apps that are stored there? Is there a better way?

I do this all the time, for apps (phjuke and RandomPic and 6.0 unix executeables (mv, grep, find etc), and data files (address and datebook... so that all my audries can see the same data). If the share goes away the app does not run. At startup I run a shell script thet mounts the shares. I am thinking of reworking that script so that it always runs and checks every half hour or so for the shares, and if it does not find them then tries and mount them. This way if I reboot my windows machine, the shares should reappear automatically within half an hour.

Any thing that is critical to running the Audrey (library files etc) I would keep local. Hope that helps.

Also I edited /etc/profile to add the shared directory to the path (as usrbin)

Cool....
Could I not put my "common" apps like phjuke, mv, vnc, etc on that share and hook all my Audrey's to it at the same time? Ie. Could I run the same phjuke from 2 Audrey's simultaneously?

Yes, that's one big advantage to running from a share, if you have multiple Audreys they can all access the same files. You may notice that programs take longer to start when running from a share, but it's usually not too bad, and once the are running they aren't any slower.

New MessageWhat do I need in /etc/profile???? (modified 0 times) davistw1

I don't have a /etc/profile on my Audrey.. I did some searching and it looks like I need to create one... Is the only thing I need to put in it

export PATH=/proc/boot:/nto/bin:/nto/photon/bin:/kojak:/nto/voyager/x86/bin:/real/bin:/tmp:/kojak/CGI:/kojak/CGI:/MYSHARENAME/bin

PS: Why the double entry for /kojak/CGI????

Can someone esplain dis to me?

1. Do I need all this just to add /myshare/bin to my path?
2. Doesn't there have to be a path added that points to /myshare/bin in the export path statement?

export ABLPATH_PATH=/nto/photon/translations
#export AUTOCONNECT=1
export CMD_INT=/bin/sh
export FLASHMEMORYLIMIT=1024
export FLASHSTREAMONLY=0
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/kojak:/proc/boot:/nto/lib:/nto/photon/lib:/nto/photon/dll:/real/plugins:/real/common
export PATH=/proc/boot:/nto/bin:/nto/photon/bin:/kojak:/nto/voyager/x86/bin:/real/bin:/tmp:/kojak/CGI
export TERM=vt100

The PATH is just a list of directories that will be searched, in order, for an executable. You need to put in any directories that you want to run executables from without typing in the full path every time.

You can also just modify the PATH line in /kojak/go, just be careful and have a backup before messing around in there, you can keep Audrey from booting if you mess up /kojak/go.
