Please give me some feedback over the weekend if it all works as promised, or if you encounter any problems, small or large that should be resolved in your opinion.

I've downloaded it but haven't flashed yet. cf size unzipped is 16,128 KB, that's different than you report on your web page. Is this a big deal or should I go for it.

A couple of questions before I plung-in.
The action palette, is it similar to the stock Audrey? Does it have the connect - disconnect buttons? can you put a screenshot of it on your site?

How would you get images into Audrey for picture frame if you did not have the ethernet adapter? FTP?

Can you make the hard buttons customizable in future releases?

And I'd like to add, for those people who want the datebook/address book stuff, aren't those programs in web interfaces (other than Audrey stock). So I think you did the right thing by deleting them, because you can access you server for that info and if you want to sync you palm, do it on the server. Palm also has web datebook stuff.

Great job. I can't wait to flash and play.

bmann,

The numbers you give are in kbytes and mine are in bytes. Multiply them with 1024 and chances are they will be right.

ActionPalette is identical with the connect and disconnect buttons. I cannot make a screenshot, because if I try it disappears from screen. Please note the connect and disconnect buttons work with the internal modem and external modem, but not all external modems disconnect and you may have to switch it off.

To get pictures in Audrey for picframe you can use ftp too. No problem.

You can customize the hard buttons now already. Most if not all work with a script file and by changing the script you change the functionality of the button. Don't change the names of the scripts, just the contents. It will work with all QNX apps. without a problem. Check for /nto/bin/Browser.sh and try. Voyager is in shelf too, so you can set that button up for another app.

This image isn't meant for users of Datebook and AddressBook, sorry..

I forgot an important security risk in my updated image with inetd, telnet and ftp. Sorry..

- At boot inetd runs in Audrey. You can telnet and ftp to Audrey at any time over a LAN or the internet.
To login, user and password are both "root" (without the quotes). You should change the password to restrict access over the internet as follows:
You can use voyager in Audrey to download the passwd executable from this page. Press and hold shift and click on this link:
http://www.prins.net/audrey/passwd
"Save as" passwd in /nto/photon/bin
At the prompt run this command first: chmod +x /nto/photon/bin/passwd and second run:
/nto/photon/bin/passwd and follow instructions on the screen. When this is done you can change dir as follows: cd /.cmp/nto/photon/bin and run this command: cmp passwd
Also you can simply disable inetd by commenting out the 6th line in /kojak/go with inetd with a # and after you reboot it will not be active anmymore.
Please check the frequently updated manual here often: http://www.prins.net/audrey/manual.html
I will upload an updated image after the weekend, possibly with more fixes.

Jukebox -

I am all set to try out the image (I even bought a CF card just for this), but I do not have any experience with creating a cf card from a .cf image.

To back up my audrey and to restore older configurations, I have been using cat xxxx > /dev/cf to and from a mounted drive. Is there any chance that you include the fs0p0, fs0p1 and fs0p2 files in your zip? If, so it would be simple for me and others to cat the files to the cf card.

lars69,
I don't understand your question. There are some excellent threads about archiving images and using them on http://www.audreyhacking.com homepage.
Anyhow the commands are as follows:
To archive your current image in use: cat /dev/fs0p0 /dev/fs0p1 > /<your-lan- mount>/<name-you-give-image>
To restore or use a new image: cat /<mount>/jukebox3.cf > /dev/cf
Don't forget to use the devb-cf command before you start cat.

I tried cat'ing the file to the cf card from my share before posting my original message. When I reboot my audrey while holding the calendar button (to test the image), I get the message 'FATAL: Invalid image'.

I assumed this was due to me not fully understanding what a .cf image was. So, I did a search on the board and found serveral threads about decompiling .cf files and pulling the fs files out of the .cf files. I made the assumption that a .cf file was somthing different than the files I have been making using the cat command. Any idea on why this image is not working off of the cf for me?

Help. I've loaded the new image and have a couple of questions.

1. I can't get caller ID to work. I figure I have to disable modem (I use dial-up). I changed teh internet settings to "USB Broadband".????

2. Does image viewer have 'scribble'. This is a great function of the original Audrey and the snapshot of the image viewer shows the scribble button. Does scribble still work? How to get it to work.

3. After launching an on-screen keyboard, the wireless keyboard wont work until shutdown. Normal?

Great stuff, please let me know.

Thanks

It should be the Datebook button, but probably that's what you are using to check. If so I would check the brand name of the cf card you use on this BBS. Do a search and find out if it worked for others. If that 's the case check the zip and image size in bytes of the image. The numbers are on my home page. Try a new download of the image. If all this doesn't help I don't know how to resolve this problem. I've never seen this myself.

bmann,

CallerID is currently setup in shelf for a USR external modem. With shelf Cfg you can check the way it's setup now and change the command for use with the internal modem. The command for the internal modem is simply "/nto/acid/acid" in Shelf Cfg (without the quotes). You can also use this command in a terminal or in /kojak/go for autostart at boot. It should work in either setup for dial-up or USB ethernet with ActionPalette. If it still doesn't please check the web site for acid in Hot List of voyager.

Scribble will show up when you edit /kojak/SystemPanel.init and remove the # before the line that starts with Paint. Save before exiting ped. Next time you start ActionPalette new you have a new icon for scribble. Except from scribbe a lot you can't do anyhting with it. So I'm curious what you did before now mail is gone. I don't see it in Picture Viewer. Anybody has a new use for scribble now?

About the keyboard, I just checked, opened both on-screen keyboards and could type on both of them plus the external keyboard. So on all three at the same time. Don't know what to say. Must be another problem, may be you used a command that blocked the IR port.

I loaded this image last night. I am just learning the Audrey but I got it going.
1. Is there anyway to get the channels knob working. I had just got it working with the first hacked version with shell and I liked it a lot.
2. I added "fs-cifs -a //name:192.168.x.x:/Audrey /mnt guest guest" in /kojak/go just before the line #./stop for adding my own mount. I typed that at the shell and it works fine but it won't mount on a shutdown/restart.
3. Any way to make pictureframe start after Audrey sits idle for say 5 minutes?

Thanks,
jab

Here's an interesting problem:

The image seems to work fine -- for a while. Then I lose all network connectivity. I *THINK* it's related to the system going in to sleep mode or something. I have a EA101.

Running ping from shell SEEMS to keep this problem from occuring.

Has anyone else seen anything similar or have an exact idea what's causing this?

jab1,
Sorry, no Channels, no Datebook and no Addressbook. Completely gone. Not a single file left from any of these apps.
To start the mount at boot you have to edit /kojak/go in Config in Shelf. Write it just before the line that starts shelf and save before exiting ped.
There is a thread here about picframe.Check it out and you may find a version that better suits your needs. Or you can make your wishes known there and see what happens.

Have you shelf still in auto close? If so the problem must be related to your EA101 or something else you may have changed in the setup.
I have had all kind of problems making this image but the network always stayed up for days or even much longer. I couldn't have done it without 2 shares that were up and running at all times.

Jukebox,

***
To restore or use a new image: cat /<mount>/jukebox3.cf > /dev/cf
Don't forget to use the devb-cf command before you start cat.
***

I used this advice to write my own flash card with this image. I used a SanDisk 32MB Compactflash SDCFB (c)99San disk. When running devb-cf, it reports the compactflash card is 36126144 bytes (35279 kb, 34MB)

When I run the restore command "cat /<mount>/jukebox3.cf > /dev/cf" the shell window flashes all kinds of text across the screen ( assume it's writing) but after 45-min to an hour when it seems it's almost done, it just locks up and there is nothing but a screen full of |’s and a blinking cursor. If I eject the card it goes back into action. I don't know much about writing these images but it seems like my card is running out of room? I would think it's big enough. Maybe you used another brand of CF card?

thanks for the help. I got paint running and it's even better than the original (finer lines). I realize that there is little you can do with it, but my girl friend and i leave messages for eachother and handwritten funner than typed messages. Soo there is no need to print/save. It would me nice to have a button (or easy way) to activate the LED to announce that there is a message (Post-It-Note).

Both keyboards are working now, but i swear they weren't and not just a line-of-site thing, oh well??

Calller ID, i haven't messed with this yet, but the program doesn't even start. is this normal if external modem isn't present?

Alarm .wav? where is this file so i can change it from that annoying K-BOOM?

I love it!!! this is a great image and it loadeded with no problems. FYI you can check the image first (datebook button).

This is exactly what I put in /kojak/go

#edit here to autostart apps and mounts
/kojak/fs-cifs -a //name:192.168.x.x:/Audrey /mnt guest guest
/nto/photon/bin/shelf &
#./stop

I saved the file and did a power cycle. When I look at the file the line is still there but the mount is not happening. I also tried it without the /kojak/ in front of fs-cifs. If I type this exact line from shell it works fine. Don't mean to be a pain but I just can't this one thing going.

Thanks,

I'll answer the last four posts in one now.

Vermifuge,
I've had the same problem when restoring images. It was alweays caused by a typo in the command line, either I forgot the ">" or a space or the share wasn't working as it should. It has nothing to do with this image in particular. The "cat" should be ready in minutes without seeing anyhthing on screen, but the prompt coming back when it's done.

bmann,
CallerID doesn't start now without an external modem present. You have to adjust the command line in shelf for the internal modem in /nto/acid/acid
Try in a terminal first and you will see it works. Check the acid web site if you still have problems.
alarm.wav is in /nto/photon/bin. That guy from India who made this app. does now how to wake us up..
Your keyboard problem was caused by a command you used in terminal and you blocked the IR port. Happened many times to me too.
Paint, as long as it's running, may make a file in a dir in /tmp. You may be able to email it as an attachment. Later I will check this out.
Isn't there a thread on this BBS how you can activate the led? Do a search and check it out.

Curious,
I can't make the image a different size.

jab1,
kojak is the wrong dir. Use /nto/bin/cf-cifs instead. If you can't get it to work do a search on this BBS. I've seen excellent threads that describe this.

Hope this helps for all of you.

I would like to suggest if you have questions about running apps. in this image you check the manual first on my web site. It's updated all the time and you can find it here: http://www.prins.net/audrey/manual.html
Also you could try to do a search on this BBS for the topic you have a problem with. As a last resort you could post your questions about how to run apps. in this thread, but probably better in the one that is about your topic.

The main purpose of this thread is to report and resolve bugs in the updated "Another QNX Image". Hope you can understand this is becoming rather time consuming for me..

Ok. guess I'm jumping on the "Drive jukebox insane with questions so he'll never make us a new image" bandwagon...
But...
I can't get phpostal to send or retrieve email
I'm using router to my cable modem. I added an email account with my pop server (pop-server) and smtp (smtp-server). I set my correct username & password for my ISP (worked for a month on your 2nd image). I triple checked my spelling on user & pswd. I even went to internet settings and set up user and password there as well (although I don't think that mattered). I have no problem browsing from voyager or phpostal's browser window.
I have unplugged & shutdown. actionpalette says connected.
I know this isn't even a 1.0 release yet of the app, but I didn't want to work on it for hours if several others have had the exact same issue. I've been touting the image all week to my wife, and she throws out, Where the hell's my emails!). Yep, she has no idea the amount of work jukebox had put into this. sheez! <--- whispering this part :)

TechSter,
Are you literally using pop-server and smtp-server? If so the problem is in the /etc/hosts file. Audrey doesn't know where to go, neither does the DNS. You could better use the ip#'s from these servers in phPostal. Please report back about this problem. I'm curious how phPostal is holding up in general and so is Sylvain the maker of it, who will provide us with version 1.0 sooner or later, I hope.

vermifuge,
About fs-cifs, there is no reason why this shouldn't work. Nothing is changed there. Someone else in the thread before you used the wrong command line. It should be /nto/bin/fs-cifs plus whatever you want to mount. To make the connection 2 computers have to work right. Rebooting your PC and Audrey and try again often helps when networks are messed up after a lot of trying.

When you edit /kojak/go I specifically mentioned to save before exiting. If you exit first and save when asked Editor sometimes cuts off the last one and a half line and you reboot with a partial desktop. In that case open a terminal, type "rescue" (without the quotes)and enter. Reboot and probably you're back, if not that's the time to reflash Audrey.
Editor (ped)apparently has a bug and this has nothing to do with this image. Editor in the RTP 6.1 is even worse and I replaced it with the 6.0 version there.

cp /kojak/go.old /kojak/go
will do the trick. Have you read this part of the manual? Could be helpful. The rescue command is also a menu item in wm.menu by pressing Alt-Enter. The original go file is present as go.old, a copy of the original file in this image.
Maybe Editor (ped) has a file size limit it can handle. If so you could delete a couple of commented lines that you never intend to use anymore and see how that works after a reboot. If it works copy this new go file over go.old and you are protected again for mishaps. Please let us all know how you go.

I believe any image has to be present with this name and you will see it on the desktop and in ActionPalette and its utils. Of course you can put any image there in the size of 640x480.
A note about the functionality of this desktop, in case you or others want to make changes.
Without Backdrop this whole QNX image will be reduced to the QNX RTP apps, while kojak apps and the button functions will disappear. Removing Notification will disable part of the button functions.

How do I determine the actual IP of the pop & smtp servers?
I tried using the domain name too... pop-server.domain.com
I suppose the stock email app used the broadband setup info to know where to look for email.

BTW, it would be sweet if pHpostal 1.0 incorporated the flashing LED somehow. I have a feeling this app will quickly be the email app of choice.
Has anyone successfully used pHpostal with cable modem?

When i try to send an email, what I assume is a progress bar goes about 1/16th of an inch and stops
When I check email, the little qnx ball spins and spins and spins, and it says checking email in bottom left corner.
It appears the app isn't getting far enough to even try my settings, but I don't know how it normally works so don't have a comparison.

TechSter,
Assuming you have another box overthere, Windoze or anything else, you may even do this on Audrey in a terminal, just do a ping and you should see the IP#. If this works on Audrey something else is causing trouble. Did you uncheck "Leave messages on server"?
If not that's causing the trouble, especially with a modem setup. In this case you have to delete your mail account and start all over from scratch with a new account and "Leave messages on server" unchecked from the start. Now you download your messages and phPostal doesn't get confused anymore. Another hint, don't hit inbox before you send email while trying to get it to work. Connect to the internet before you start the setup.
Try to email yourself from another box and fetch the mail with Audrey, be aware your other box may do the same before you reach Audrey..
At this time phPostal is designed for a broadband connection with the exclusive use of a mail server. In that situation it works without any problem. Any other way needs a couple of precautions to have it work properly, more of that in my manual.

TechSter,
Another hint. phPostal is touchy, but when it works it keeps working. If you know for sure the setup is properly done and you see that thing spinning, exit phPostal and start it again. Be sure before you hit the inbox there will be mail on your mail server to fetch. If that works try the next step, compose and send etc.
Please tell us when it works or not.

Jukebox,

After making sever attempts to ad in the fc-cifs to the kojak go file. I decided to just use vi to edit the file. Well it worked first try. I highly doubt that I did it wrong every time with ped I think it just somehow damaged the file. Regardless I am now operating at full power with this excellent image. Thanks again for your time. I will make comments if I notice anything lacking and or broken.

Now i'm really confused about phPostal. I have Broadband! I use a cable modem and have several PC's & audreys connected to my router & cable modem. I have shared mounts & streaming pics & mp3. I can't do email with pHpostal.
I have sent the audrey MANY emails from pc's (no other audrey or pc is grabbing this account first). I created the account over ten times and always left "leave messages on server unchecked"

Here's an example of my setup...have road runner, i put this info in:
pop server= pop-server.houston.rr.com
smtp-server= smtp-server.houston.rr.com
i put in account name and password (the same nmae & passwd i used on your image#2 with an audrey & the one i can check from pc with outlook express)
I don't understand why I would need my audrey IP address for pHpostal. The numbers i found were for the email server for my road runner email. (tried those, too)

When you say "must connect to the internet" I am connected as I can browse from voyager or the bottom window of phPostal where google is.
PLEASE someone else who has phPostal working on cable modem, especially road runner give some tips!
Jukebox, thanks for the technical support. I feel like we can get it solved together.

Techster,
And I thought this would be fun for everybody.. Sorry to hear this, but I hope someone else can jump in here. I've no idea if or what problems other users might have or not have with phPostal.
Also you could click on the phPostal link in the browser part and next click on "Report Bugs". Sylvain is very cooperative and wants this app to work, He knows about the image but has no Audrey himself.
Now that you have your broadband LAN you could install your own smtp/pop server on a PC. For Windoze I use ArGoSoft freeware, you can find it on http://www.webattack.com an excellent website for tons of freeware. With this one or another installed and working in your LAN you can see exactly what's going on with the email, including errors etc. Could be very helpful for testing and more.
Hope to hear good news soon from you.

tried the argosoft mail server
Not sure exactly which options to choose but here's what I did:
looked up my ISP's DNS server address,
1. put this in the DNS Server box and choose Allow Relay
2. added user with the email account assigned to me by ISP & the same passwd
3. ran server with logging
4. set audrey to connect to the IP address of my Windows PC
5. just spins & spins
BUT, now if i type in pop-server, after a couple seconds it comes back with "host not found" error
No errors or connections of any kind are appearing in the log
(i can successfully ping from PC & audrey)

Can you use this new smtp server to send mail from your windows box? You have to be sure that way this new setup works before looking at phPostal.
I just tried to ping your mail servers, but they're dead.. Aren't those names changed a while ago. They may have written new names in Outlook Express..

Ok,this is becoming embarassing. Let's back up a few steps.
I REALLY appreciate the quick & thorough support, here. Maybe we can help sylvain work out the bugs (or commit myself to an institution, whichever is necessary).

Vermifuge, what kind of setup are you using( ISP, braodband or dialup, router/hub/PC with email servers)?
Exactly what (edit for your personal info) do you enter in the add account menu on phPohstal

account name:
pop server:
smtp server:
user name:
password:
email:
signature:

YES, i am UNchecking the Leave messages on server (I've done it both ways many times just in case)

You guys that are using argosoft email server, what do you set in options?
DNS <--- did you get this from winipcfg DNS info?
Relay?
smtp authentication?
pop3 ?
when adding user here, do you use same user name & password that you have setup with yoru ISP?

AGAIN, many thanks!

It bothers me I still can't ping your mail servers. The reason could be I'm on another domain from rr. Can you ping your mail servers from Audrey? Or from your windows box? The problem could be in your LAN setup and rr Houston doesn't accept you from Audrey.
I will be back later with my settings from ArGoSoft. Have to reboot in windoze first..

I still don't understand completely why I can't ping your mail servers and it would be helpful to know if you can ping them from your Audrey, just to localize the problem. If you can or can't will make a big difference to find the solution for this problem.

That problem I was having getting your image to my cf card was due to a bad card. The damn thing seems to work intermittently.

Question. In shelf, how do I configure the Windows share correctly? Here is what I did:
1. launched shelf setup
2. expanded networking and clicked on windows share
3. changed the command to launch to:
/kojak/winmount.sh
4. clicked apply
5. clicked done
6. clicked windows share in shelf
7. opened pterm to check if it mounted the directory - nope
8. ran winmount.sh from pterm and it mounted the directory
9. rebooted audrey (in case this was needed to have shelf changes take affect)
10. clicked windows share in shelf
11. opened pterm to check if it mounted the directory - nope

there is only one line in winshare.sh:
/nto/bin/fs-cifs -v //<winhost>:<IP>:/<share> /<mount> <login> <password> &

obviously the element in <> are replaced in the real file and I tried it both with and without &

what am I missing?

oh and I also tried putting the line from winshare.sh directly in the windows share command line box

Great you resolved the problem with the cf card.
For all my scripts in shelf I used execv. In your case that would mean you make this link first from the prompt:
ln -s /nto/bin/execv /nto/bin/winshare
and you would use "/nto/bin/winshare" (without the quotes) in shelf to start winshare.sh in Audrey.
Hope this works for you.

I gave this a try:

ln -s /nto/bin/execv /nto/bin/winshare
used "/nto/bin/winshare" (without the quotes) in shelf to start winshare.sh in Audrey.

do I then need to move winshare.sh from /kojak to /nto/bin ?
I notied that execv is a executable, what does it do?

As you can probably guess, making these changes did not work for me. I am not a qnx guru, but it seems like there was an assumption made that i might have missed. Can I get the -v version of your directions :)

BTW, this image rocks. After I got the mount working, I added several of my commonly used programs. I also moved over a new flash file for the intro.

Sorry to be such a pita. I got the script to launch the mount. For anyone else out there trying to figure this out:

I created the file /nto/bin/winmount.sh
Within winmount.sh I put in my fs-cifs commands
From a shell promt I typed 'ln -s /nto/bin/execv /nto/bin/winmount'
I used '/nto/bin/winshare' in shelf cfg to start winshare.sh

Now I'm confused. You have to use the same name twice, the orginal script with the <name>.sh extension and the link <name> you create with execv without the extension. You use the last in shelf.
I'm curious about the falsh file for the intro, where did you got one?

Been running image for a few days and it's still going strong. There is a couple of thing:

1. I did the update to get phMp3 and it went great, but i did notice a typo "cd /.cmp/ntp/photon/bin" in the instructions. I'm new to this and it was obvious to me, but i thought i'd point it out. (ntp=nto)

2. I know there's nothing on your part, but when using the paint program, the screen calibration is off, but only in paint. I've searched, but could find ony info about this paint program. any theroies? not a big deal, it still works.

Anyway, everything works great, no more mysterious keyboard problems and i found the phAlarm.wav file on my own. The only thing i couldn't do is add paint to the shelf. i did add phMp3 to shelf, so i'm assuming that paint can't go in shelf and that's ok. ;)

Thanks about the typo, I'll correct it. Only one on that whole website...? Not bad, if that's correct.
About Paint, it's a Kojak app and cannot start in shelf. Funny about the calibration. I couldn't find any info either. When it runs I think it writes a file in /tmp/mail as it did when kojak mail was still running. You may be able to email the scribble as attachment still.

Looks like you are correct. Lack of sleep is catching up to me, winshare was a residual file name from an earlier attempt. It should have read like this:

I created the file /nto/bin/winmount.sh
Within winmount.sh I put in my fs-cifs commands
From a shell promt I typed 'ln -s /nto/bin/execv /nto/bin/winmount'
I used '/nto/bin/winmount' in shelf cfg to start winmount.sh

As far as the flash file, I made one. In fact I have a couple that I put together for myself. I am going to put a new one together that will fit with the new look and feel. I will post something to this board when I get it finished.

General:
DNS Server put in here
Checked Load server at windows startup
Checked Autostart server
Checked Allow Relay
Now the server runs at boot
Logging:
nothing here
SMTP Authentication:
nothing here
Ports:
All on Default settings
Local Domains:
home

Help says no local domains are necessary when your mail address is the same as the domain.

If you are still willing to spend time on this, please check if you can ping your mail servers from Audrey, your windows box for smtp and pop-server.Houston.rr.com.
If this works try to send mail from your windows box through Argosoft by putting "localhost" (without the quotes) as the smtp server in Outlook Express. Pop remains pop.server.houston.rr.com
Mail to yourself and pick the mail up again from pop-server.houston.rr.com.
If this all works try the same on Audrey with phPostal. It should work without a problem now from Audrey. If not you have a domain mismatch in your setup.
You can see on the ArGoSoft window whats going on and what the problem is.

danagy,
If you do a search on the channle knob on this bbs you'll find the exact info you ask for after a lot of reading.
The channel knob executes 3 function keys, with push, left and right. Try it with Filemanager open and you will see.
CallerID (acid) uses the same when scrolling through past calls on the screen.

I don't use Jukebox's image or paint but I have noticed the same issue with other apps. When I run phjuke without playing any music, usually after an album or playlist has finished.. the next time I turn on the Audrey the default channel00 will be in the foreground. I have no idea what causes it or how to fix it but I have seen it also. Along with the same lines if I startup phjuke it usually starts with the same folder open that I had open before. This leads me to believe that phjuke didn't close but just changed focus to the background.

I set my argosoft exactly like yours (with my DNS that I could ping 24.93.67.64).
I then changed my smtp-server to localhost and it immediately gave this error:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'XXXXX.houston.rr.com'. TechSter,
Now we are going somewhere! You can contact the smtp server and you have a domain mismatch in the setup somewhere, but basically it works already.
In ArGoSoft edit the Local Domain tab and add "houston.rr.com" as the local domain. I bet it works from there and if not I wonder about the domain setup you have in your broadband router, windows and Audrey. But again I think you're there already and if not react to all error messages in ArGoSoft and try to resolve those errors.
I have my own domain for my email and I haven't been able to send mail lately through any provider, reason why I have my local smtp server on every platform I use. Every setup of the smtp server has it's own needs and now you can do something with the error messages.

still get same error from outlook when mailing out.
what exactly do i put in the DNS on phPostal if i use argosoft?
do i use what it tells me from ipconfig is the reverse host lookup?
do i out the IP address of my PC running Argosoft?
why would my router now be affecting phPostal but didn't affect the old image?

TechSter,
By changing ports it becomes more complicated.. And if you exit the smtp server for any reason it will happen again with a restart. After a while the port could become available again and certainly with a reboot of the PC. But if you insist on changing the port you have to do that on the clients too at all times.
Can you email to other addressen than your own?
What are the ip#'s you use in your LAN? the 192 kind or maybe ip#'s that exist already on the internet. In that case things will go wrong.
Do you use 2 hacked ethernet cards in your LAN and if so do they have their own unique hardware address?
It's very difficult to help someone this way solving LAN problems. I don't know the exact setup of your LAN and the best advise I can give is check for server errors and act on them. Hope you get this to work and if you do it will look so simple afterwards..
If need be you can always install the previous image.

I know I am making this more difficult than it is. I have a windows xp PC that gest Ip automtically from a D Link router that is doing DHCP from my road runner cable modem. I do not have any domain entered in the router setup (never had before either). I have a standard 10/100 ethernet card connecting the PC to the router.
I have audrey connected by a 3COM 3c19250 to the router.
I also pulled the audrey and attached it directly to the cable modem... same trouble.
PhPostal just sits on "Checking email"
I guess what is so frustrating is that I can't understand why the other image using the stock email app worked, and phPostal won't. I really would like the extra functionality of pHpostal.
I'm sorry to be so difficult. I may just give up and go back to the old image.

Three in one this time.

bmann,
About Paint again, I can start Paint from the command line with:
helper_starter Paint
You probably could do the same from a shelf menu entry but I haven't tried that. You may need a script and link execv. "helper_starter" is an executable that can allow you to start some kojak apps from the command line.

TechSter,
I ran out of options, gave my best advise...

mumbus,
Are you having a problem with the new flash card? Why not use the 64 meg card again to reflash with another image. If that works the problem definately is in the new card.

About the app closing thing -- Audrey has two sleep modes: light sleep and deep sleep. Deep sleep kicks in after an hour or so. In deep sleep mode, the background (or sometimes channel 00) comes to the foreground. All the apps are still running. You just need a way to bring them to the front. Personally, I did the keyboard remap (http://www.audreyhacking.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Content&file=index&&menu=1311&page_id=24), and I just hit ALT-ESCAPE, which cycles through the running apps, bringing each to the front (similar to ALT-TAB in windows).

Since my last post I successfuly flashed Audrey again with "Another QNX Image" from the 64MB card, so reading that card is no problem, I just can't seem to write to any other card. Any other ideas?

Paint shut itself off at midnight, again....but

There was a scribbled message on Audrey all day yesterday, and she was asleep for various periods of time up to 4 hours. I was doing some hotlist editing then I closed Voyager and opened the editor to have a 'back-up' message in case paint closed and 5 minutes to midnight I pushed the power button and Audrey went to sleep. At 12:20 I pushed the power button and paint was gone, but the editor was still up. Something similar to this happened with the original Audrey datebook, I tried leaving the scribble pad open and in the morning it was closed and showed only the main datebook screen. Wierd.

No big deal, just wierd. I guess we can use the editor of the sound recorder, but the scribble pad was the most fun :(

Thanks for the help and if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Also Sketchy could be right with his answer in this thread recently on the subject of disappearing apps. They still run and all you have to do is cycle throught them and bring scribble back on screen. You can always see all running apps on Audrey in the bottom shelf. If scribble is still there while you don't see it on screen, it definately still runs.

Worked great all day yesterday. Got email, surfed, etc. This morning, however, I couldn't reach the Internet. Used shutdown to reboot, failed to obtain IP address. Uplugged, waited a minute, failed to obtain IP address. Went to desktop pc, got out fine. I'm using a Linsys router with a cable modem. Looked at DHCP client table on router, no sign of Audrey. Only changes I've made since install are mail account info and changed Caller ID (Acid) to use internal modem.

Any ideas?

By the way, I used a 32 mb cf card I bought at CompUSA. The guy at CompUSA said their cf cards are made by PNY.

Jab

Paint did not disappear last night using the new "helper_starter Paint"

Hotlist, I mean Hotlinks. I made some bookmarks for the LED, but then I used your command for the browser keyboard to make shelf buttons and it works, but you have to close Voyager, but that's still easier that opening voyager, going to Hotlinks and to LED...etc. Now if there was a script to add to the shelf that would control LED without opening shell or voyager, that would be cool.

Also, when I made my LED shelf buttons, they expand horizontally. This was an accident, but I like it. The shelf is already so full and going horizontal really makes it stick-out.

Voyager tip: to add hotlinks in customized folders: edit hotlinks, make your new folder, leave edit hotlinks open and highlight the folder you want you link to go in, go to voyage, go to web page you want to bookmark, add to hotlinks and there it is. After that you can paste links into that folder. These may be an easier way, but this is how I figured it out. There is not a help file for obvious reasons and I couldn't find help online.

Three in one again.

bretb,
I can only speak for myself and I have never ever had any network problems. I use only standard non hacked hardware.
In case of problems the number of causes could be daunting and different in each stup. My best advise is switch of any and all hardware using the network.Check all cable connections. Switch on the modem, the router, your pc and audrey in this sequence, while checking each component's working order after you switch it on and before switching on the next component on the LAN.This way you isolate the problem and act accordingly in resolving the problem. If your Audrey was on the LAN at first I see no reason why it cannot come back normally.

jab1,
These are the files that serve the buttons: mail.sh, Datebook.sh, Browser.sh, address_book.sh and ActionPalette, all in /kojak. You can change the script files with the extension .sh only any way you like.

bmann,
Drawers sometimes work better than Groups in shelf. In my coming update I will bring in three simple scripts for the LED. Simply SetLEDState 0, 1 or 2. I will put their entries in the wm pop-up menu. You can even set the LED state over the network with telnet and do these commands from there.
About Hotlist in Voyager. I did the same as you by setting up a hotlist with folders in Netscape on another pc. Or you can use import too or do it your way of course.

Well, I tested the Paint program last night by opening it throught the Action Pallette and sure enough, it closed itself at midnight and I pretty sure that it really closed, it wasn't in the taskbar on the bottom. But the helper_starter worked, so that's even better because of the shelf.

After I week of using this image, the only wierd things (besides paint) are the time doesn't stay correct. I'm not 100% sure about it, but I have to do the 'Set time and date' thing frequently. Now this might have something to do with shutting down? I've had to reboot sometimes to get rid of another small quirk. Every now and then the screen does not refresh where the taskbar at the bottom leaving a grey band accross the bottom of the screen. Not a big deal and I'm sure that is something to do with Audrey display hardware. Is there a screen 'refresh' command/keyboard short-cut?

Other than those insignificant things, this is the best image out there by far.

bmann,
OK Paint works.
About the time, each reboot needs a Datebook push to set the time again. You may want to autostart this when using USB ethernet. The command would be "ntpdate <timeserver-ip#>" (without the quotes). The time server ip# is in Timeserver0 in /config I believe, and in Datebook.sh in /kojak. Put it in /kojak/go below the TZ value and not at the top.
About the screen refresh. In my experience this doesn't happen with normal use of Audrey, only when you are doing experiments and/or are trying to setup new stuff and sometimes mess up Audrey.
I don't know about a "sreen refresh".
This kind of problems occur exactly the same in the QNX RTP under the same circumstances, so I don't think anything can be done about it.

About phPostal. Sylvain, the maker of it informed me that he is working on an update with a bug fix and a news reader. Should be done in a couple of weeks he said. There might be more future updates.
The bug fix may be of concern for TechSter and others who currently have problems with phPostal:

There is a major bug though that if you send an email to:
firstname lastname <email@host.com>
it will not work, it needs to be:
"firstname lastname" <email@host.com>

If you want to send mail succesfully, see to it that you follow this rule at this time. This may explain if you send test mail to yourself it doesn't work, but you shouldn't have this problem sending mail to others, just typing in their email address, or reply to mail from others.
I will keep you posted when and where the update becomes available.

Great image, Jukebox. Thanks for sharing.

I loaded phMp3 and it's great. I also added it to shelf. Can I delete phplay now???

Also, Picframe is great. I know how to mount a shared directory with fs-cifs, but how do I direct Picframe to go there? Also, where are the 2 sample pics you included?

Great work.

AudreyX3,
/kojak/pics has the pics included.
Run picframe from the command line and it tells you how to set it up. You can check my setup in shelf too as an example.
Don't delete phPlay, it's your voyager plugin for MP3 and other audio formats.

Let me 1st say thanks for all your work on this great image. I love it.

I am having trouble with a realaudio site and hope you can help or at least it might me interesting info.

The site is www.boomerradio.com. I listen to it all them time with the orginal Audrey + hack image without any problem.
I just tried it with your release and when I click on the Acoustic Cafe icon it tries to download cafe.asx..... I can't seem to get streaming audio to work. The other two streaming audio channels on the site do similar actions.
So seems something is different. Wonder if you have see this before.
Thanks again for a great image. All this work by you and others really help to make Audrey a more useful device..

Sawadee kap, sebai di mai?
There are some previous posts on this board. Do a search for RealPlayer and you will find them. I explained there how you may resolve this problem.
The bottom line was to use a Windows PC that can connect to these audio streams and find out he exact link windows uses in its RealPLayer and type that link in RealAudio player in Audrey. Most of the time it will work.
Another manner could be to go to the original site where the stream comes from and do the same from there with Audrey. Audrey cannot handle streaming audio links in RealPlayer that have /cgi/ in it.
As soon as it works you can make a link in the hotlist and you're there.

Jukebox,
I have tried and tried and I cannot get your image to load. I have tried from my CF adapter, I have tried directly from Adurey, Same results every time, invalid image. I have read most of the topics with no success. I am at the end of my rope.

You must have a problem putting the image correctly on your flash card. Can you flash other images? If so do a new download for the image and it should work.

Jukebox,
Thanks I figure it out. Aparently it did not want to work with my brand of CF, I tried a SanDisk Card and it worked the first time. I have a new question, How do I set up my windows share so that it will show at bootup. I tried editing the boot.sh but in you image it is a read only file. Under networking there is a choice for window share but I press it and nothing happends. I is probably something obvious that I am over looking, but after several days trying to get everithing to work I am running low on patience. Thanks for your help.

Do a search thru this forum. I am positive the answer is here somewhere. I had the same question long ago. Have you tried using PED to edit boot.sh? if yuo cant write to it still, i think the command to change permissions is chmod a+x boot.sh <--i think thats write and execute.. Dont remember exactly.

pastorgabe,
The windows share menu item in shelf is empty. You can use Shelf Cfg and edit whatever you want to share as a command line and it should work immediately.
Check the message board for the exact syntax of the command. Try it out on the command line and when it works put it in shelf.
Currently boot.sh is disabled in /kojak/go, uncomment the line "sh boot.sh and boot.sh should work too.
Youre almost there.

Opening programs (mainly Voyager) and having it open full screen with other stuff open (mainly on-screen keyboard and paint). Even with these programs not visible on the screen (down on taskbar), Voyager still opens 'cascading', meaning down and to the right to leave other program top visible. Is there any way to force Voyage into opening full-screen no matter what's open?

Also, phAlarm opens in the middle of the screen with the bottom half off the screen. Is there any way to have this open at a specific spot or at least not halfway off the screen?

bmann,
There probably is, but I never gave it another thought. With a tap on the touch screen up on the right side of the top bar of the window the apps open full. You can give voyager a number of parms to open in different ways. It's described in different threads and you can find it in the QNX Utilities Reference. That link is in the Hot List of voyager. There are so many possibilities and it could be nice to customize apps to open as you want it.
You can move the apps on screen with the stylus to any place you want and you can move phAlarm up easily. It's not a very well behaving app by itself apparently.
