Is the main background (channel00) a webpage?
If so can I edit the index.shtml to add buttons,etc?

There is a Backgroup app that just load a .gif image and then there is Channel00 that is seen when Audrey is done booting up. Channel00 is a web page (index.shtml) located in /data/XML/Channels/.countertop which is linked to /data/XML/Channels/.Channel00
Channel00 is a very simple page with just a background image that has the explanations for each of the buttons. You can easily change it.
