New way to get audio to your Audrey

First you need a real encoder that will encode content complatible with the Real
player 6 on the Audrey (This is free but this is the only place I could find it).
You cannot use Real producer 8 basic because it only produces real 8 content.

http://www.musicisti.net/Programmi/realencoder51.exe

Next download Realserver Basic (Free).
http://licensekey.realnetworks.com/rnforms/products/servers/eval/index.html?ulf=bas&src=frrnpd

Install the Realencoder on the Windows machine you want to server from I found
this worked on 2000 but not XP so your milage may vary. Next install real server on the
same machine.

Ok so now you have a couple of choices convert any files you want to serve to rm format(not
very productive). Choice two was to broadcast a live stream, this is trickier than it
sounds Real encoder only captures from a few sources MIDI, Line-In, CD-Audio, or mic. What I did
is used the AWEamp plugin for winamp to play through the MIDI interface on my Sound Blaster AWE 64.
This is great because I can use winamp playlists, add whole directories etc to winamp. Ok so now
you have a source for Real encoder. Go into the real server admin and goto the Pre-G2 encoder page
and set your password. You will need this in a minute. Open real encoder and choose to make a live
Stream. Set the copyright and stream information. Set your Target Audience I used 56 k ISDN Stereo.
This could probably be smaller the speakers on the Audrey are not very good.(This could use some more
research I will look at it more later) Set your source to Audio - Music with Lyrics. Set the host name
of the machine where real server resides, change the port to 5050, set a filename (ex live.rm) and use the
password from the Real Server setup. You will send up with a screen that has a start button on it.
Start your media player with your source (I click start, shuffle and repeat on Winamp). Click
start on Real encoder.

Now all you have to do is point your browser on your Audrey or another computer on your network to
http://host:8080(default http for real server)/ramgen/live/filename from encoder(ex live.rm)

Congrats you save alot of space on your audrey because you don't need all the phplay files. This
is much easier to me than the other methods out there. The initial setup is long but now I can
easily modify playlists, etc. Best part is I have a stream for any computer and my Audrey.

Good Luck!

Great info, thanks. In case you don't know, there is a Winamp plugin called snowcrash that will allow you to control Winamp from Audrey's browser. The combination should give you a complete remote control of your music from Audrey. Check out this thread for details http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=3Com_Audrey&Post=554&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=

Sounds like a good thing to try. Before I do, or else work on the MP3 player available elsewhere -- is it the case that the Audrey's RealPlayer is not able to directly play MP3s, like the PC/Mac RealPlayers can? Perhaps all that's needed is to configure the browser to pass MP3s off to the RealPlayer?

Just checking,
Jim

You can't open them through the web browser by any method I've tried. I played with the plugins etc alot and never could figure out how to make it work. This actually works better for me becuase I can use this from any computer (thanks jhd3rd for the winamp remote suggestion). I found that the 112k ISDN Music/Stereo setting was the best quality the Audrey could playback with the speaker included.
