I have compiled a new image based on the jukebox3 image. This has all the apps included in the jukebox3 image plus more. The image is cleaned, some apps fixed and shelf is reconfigured to resemble windows. Start up files are cleaned and boot time is drastically reduced. Date and Time is updated automatically at startup silently, you don't have to press the datebook button to update time anymore. Most application windows are reconfigure to open to proper screen size and placement. All the hardware buttons are remapped. Datebook=phalarm, Browser=voyager, Addressbook=phjuke, Mail=phpostal, action=audrey option. you can remap them to anything you desire of course. The following apps are included:

screen capture
onscreen keyboard (large, small, web)
calculator
caller id
alarm clock
pic frame
mp3(both phjuke and phplay)
image viewer
ped editor
icq
phpostal(mail)
real voyager
real player
audio recorder
playlist maker
audio mixer
Shelf and standard QNX apps: (neutrino sin, file manager, etc)

Email me at kenzhao8@attbi.com if you want this image. I can upload this image if someone is willing to host it. Thanks to all that contributed to these boards and for sharing their applications. This is an awesome image>>Enjoy.

I would appreciate if you gave an overview of the mods you did only. The rest, done by me, is common knowledge and and can be viewed on my web site as you might know.
I spend hundreds of hours on creating this image and it hurts a little bit when you call this a "new" image..

As the title suggests, most of the credit was given to jukebox for the base image. people who read these boards know how much work it takes to do these hacks and no one person is responsible for everything. so, much appreciation goes out to those that contributed. Let's thank the friendly people on this board for their hard work and show your appreciation by posting your interesting finds.

Infinity,
Please feel free to do whatever you want with my image, no offense whatsoever.
If you want to publish your "new" image however I would recommend you just say something like this.
I took such and so's image and implemented the following modifications and you describe those in more detail.
That way you give someone a choice, they can use it or not.
I give you one example about what you modified. Time & Date was originally set by Audrey with an executable setitime of 7k at boot, very annoying for modem users. setitime I believe was setup with 3 time servers and when the line was free it always worked as long as you had no other connect problems. I replaced setitime with ntpdate of over 400k, because I had the space available and it was the only way to do my hack with the button. However ntpdate is setup with one timeserver that workes most of the time but not always. No timeserver is accessable at all times.
Of course you can autostart ntpdate, especially when you are on a network, I recommended that. You can uncomment a couple of lines in the configuration files and have setitime back as before and delete 400k with ntpdate too.
I'm not sure what you did now will work for modem users, if Audrey still boots for them if they cannot connect at boot time for whatever reason. They lost their choice to set Time & Date whenever is convenient for them too. If you took the commented lines out of the configuration files nobody can reverse any of my hacks anymore too, including this one.
Again no offense whatsoever, enjoy my image and your own hacks, publish it for download, give it to as many people as you want and take all credit for your modifications.

jukebox,
Did i not mention your name in the title? Did i not say it is based on your image? People should all know about jukebox3.cf don't you think? i am just giving other people a choice to use what they feel comfortable using, another option to the many great images out there. i think i clearly stated whose base image i started with and any intelligent person would know who to give the credit to. i don't think you have to worry about that. This is bull****, i thought the main purpose of these boards is to share information. hey i guess you guys/girls will just have to download jukebox3.cf and modify it yourselves. as much as i want to share it i dont want to offend anyone here.

I have been using Jukebox's 2nd and now 3rd image, and I am very happy with both. Playing around with downloading images, making CF cards, and generally trying all the modifications has taughtme alot.

However, I am still learning my way around and I've looked at several images. I would certainly like to get Infinity's modifications of Jukebox's image.

I for one appreciate the efforts of all you gurus out there!

Infinity,

If I can interject here: I interpret jukebox's primary statements as a request for you to provide information regarding the changes you've made, so that others can understand how what you've done works differently. As far as what defines a "new image", I figure that it's an issue of percentage of change over what came before. In other words, if I took an existing image, added a few programs and removed a few more, this would constitute a modification of an existing image. If I started from the base OS and built up a system from that point, it would be considered a new image.

Just my $.02.

Infinity,

I want to know what you changed with the shelf, did you change 'groups' to 'drawers'?, or more complicated than that.

The manual time set is fine for me, but I can see now how automatic time update is needed, Audrey can't remember the time on a 'shutdown', but I use dial-up and Jukebox is correct, I wouldn't be connected at start-up....

I would also like some detail on remapping the hardware button, specifically the phAlarm = datebook. What does your script look like. Jukebox identified where these are, but I don't know enough about QNX to change them.

The Jukebox3.cf image boots fast, how fast is 'drastically reduced'?

How do you get the application windows to open "to proper screen size and placement"? I want voyager to open maximized.

My version of 'Jukebox3.cf' is not original anymore either. I've added 'Paint' to the shelf (with Jukebox's help) and a 'drawer' with the LED state commands (using Voyager, which i wish was a straight script without opening Voyager) to the shelf, and a few other tweeks, but it's not modified enough to post. ;-D

I've been using jukebox2 & 3 as well and have been VERY happy with both images. But that didn't stop me from racing to audreyhacking 3 times today hoping infinity's modified image was on there by now. It's obvious to those of us with limited ability (like me), that we not only appreciate, but need the work of "higher minds," like the both of you, because all these great apps & improvements aren't gonna magically appear on my Audrey.
Infinity, please make the image available, call it whatever you'd like. Heck, I still can't even get pHpostal to work, but I'm excited to give a new image a run on my Audreys.
Jukebox, I understand your interest in preserving what is "yours," (I can only imagine the enumerable hours you've put in). I see, too, how Infinity listing his mods would be beneficial to the group. But to be honest, he could have answered all your questions and just confused about 30% of us here anyway. I truly think Infinity was throwing you just props in his post and likely assumed you would be supportive of his efforts. Believe me, we ALL NEED BOTH of you, and the many others who came before you and will likely come after.
So now you can both be angry with me, and get back to creating some awesome stuff for this great group of enthusiasts. And, yes, I do have swollen lips from kissing more than one cheek. :)

Yeah, I don't think jukebox was offended, just asking for some details to help folks understand whats different. Somethings may work better for some users, some may not, and it's nice to know the details so you can take what you need and leave what you don't. We all appreciate everyone's efforts and build on the discoveries and work of others. And if I remember correctly, jukebox's original image was based on an even earlier image called "Mostly QNX". C'mon, group hug .

jhd3rd,
Thanks for your kind words. I used MQNX for 5 minutes and decided to make my own, because it didn't work for me. Up to today my image is built on the original setup of Audrey and MQNX was exactly that, Mostly QNX. At weeks end a totally new image comes out, pure QNX, partly 6.0 and 6.1. I stripped down good old Audrey to a blank desktop and addded all my stuff from there plus basic USB support and some devices setup for immediate use. When I was done I brought the buttons and system sounds back to life. It works without a single Kojak application and I wish I had done so earlier, because it's so much easier that way. Wish we heard more from davinci27 too..

I've decided to officially release infinityaudrey1.cf. This image has been UPDATED again today and the base image used again is jukebox3.cf by jukebox. I've added the audrey option icon to control panel(shelf), you don't need to use the hardware button to open audrey options(button still works). Pterm can be opened by pressing or rotating the Filmstrip Channel knob. This image will be uploaded to audreyhacking.com, i will reference jukebox's website so anyone who need more information about the jukebox3.cf image can visit jukebox's website for more information. if you don't like what i did you can post here or email me and i will do my best to guide you in the right direction. Again here is a summary of the apps and mods.

ALL the apps included in the jukebox3 image plus more. The image is cleaned, some apps fixed and shelf is reconfigured to resemble windows. Start up files are cleaned and boot time is drastically reduced. Date and Time is updated automatically at startup silently(see note 1), you don't have to press the datebook button to update time anymore. Most application windows are reconfigure to open to proper screen size and placement. All the hardware buttons are remapped. Pterm is opened by rotating or pressing the filmstrip channel knob. Datebook=phalarm, Browser=voyager, Addressbook=phjuke, Mail=phpostal, action=audrey option. you can remap them to anything you desire of course.

The following apps and mods are included:
screen capture
onscreen keyboard (large, small, web)
calculator
caller id
alarm clock
pic frame
mp3(both phjuke and phplay)
image viewer
ped editor
icq
phpostal(mail)
real voyager
real player
audio recorder
playlist maker
audio mixer
Paint(not very useful without the standard email app)
Shelf and standard QNX apps: (neutrino sin, file manager, etc)
audrey option icon to open audrey options(modem, ethernet setup, etc)

Note1:
silent date&time update works only with ethernet connection, modem users have to go to control panel and hit the date&time icon after connection is established.

note2:
to remap hardware button, go to /kojak and modify the command in the respective .sh files and reboot. (you can even remap the audrey option key but doing so will not bring up options anymore, and the icon will fail as well, i suggest that you don't remap the audrey option button)

note3.
remember to change /kojak/boot.sh to reflect your share location. remember to modify the command line for the ftp in shelf config to reflect your ftp address. remember to modify the command line in picfram in shelf config to reflect your file names.

note4.
to change the background (640x480), ftp your image to /kojak/img/eng/common/ and do mv yourfile.gif common_background.gif and reboot. (Some people asked me if I really OWN a Sony Aibo, the answer is YES i do own an Aibo, ERS210.)

Okay kids ;) Here it is. I heard from Infinity today and now have the image.

The whole description and the image can be found here:

Please don't beat up my poor lil cablemodem too much. I get about 14k/s upload speeds so be patient because you will most likely be getting it at the same time as others are.

I wrote the above before I saw that Infinity also listed an FTP site. Please try and split our connections. I have no idea how that'll happen. Maybe if you click the link on an even minute, click mine. On an odd minute click Infinity's ;)

notes continued:

note5: For newbies: if you haven't discovered this yet, here is what you need to know about hardware buttons. if you think your buttons are not working, tap the background or use alt+esc (snap+paste) to switch to the background to bring the buttons back to life.

note6: in control panel none of the share mounting apps were configured in shelf because it was useless for me to set it since everyone has different paths. you can set the different mounts by going into shelf config and add your mount paths for each one after the command. Reboot and you're good to go.

note7: some people might ask why notification manager loads at startup. Disabling notification manager in /config/rm-apps, startup-main, startup-warm will disable the auto-off feature and you might want to install a screen saver to reduce damage to the screen.

note8: phpostal is in Alpha stage so it will crash alot. you might just want to stick with web email instead while we wait for an official release of phpostal. if space permits i will try to bring back the original mail client and Datebook in my next update.

sidenote: you will see that the Date&Time update is obtained before shares in /kojak/boot.sh. If you move the time upate after your shares it might not update automatically if the connection to your shares failed. so i suggest that you keep it in front. (this is what i've observed, it may differ in your situation). Don't use the sleep command to wait for your ethernet to come up before shares. the if_up command does that already, if you use sleep it will slow your boot time down.

Enjoy.

Cool, you put paint in.....

Yea, it doesn't do much, but it's great for leaving scribbled messages (post-it notes). Add a blinking LED and you have a eMessage Board.

I figure out how to modify the Hard Buttons. I have Address Book opening Paint by "#" the existing commands and adding "helper_starter Paint".

bmann,
for some reason the screen shots are corrupted. i will put up some new ones up this afternoon. Yes using helper_starter is the easiet way to start some of the apps that would normally give you Memory Fault errors when running in pterm and may also be applied to hardware buttons. This method is applied in my shelf to open Paint and Audrey options.

notes continued:

note9: some people might be curious on how to maximize or relocate an application window upon opening. you can maximize any application window by adding -S m after the command line in shelf config(or in pterm). i.e. if you want to maximize the voyager window upon opening: voyager -S m make sure you use CAP S not small s. To set the default location use -x AAA -y BBB. AAA being a number from 0-640 and BBB being a number from 0-480. Coordinate -x 0 -y 0 is the upper left hand corner. coordinate -x 640 -y 480 is lower right hand corner. i.e. if you want to have phAlarm open on the upper left corner, do: phAlarm -x 0 -y 0. Most Apps have been configured already but you can customize your own by editing the command lines in shelf config.

note10: For newbies: if you find yourself stuck in phjuke (always use phjuke for optimal mp3 performance, phplay is reserved for online streaming) use the alt+esc (paste+snap) keys to switch out. If you find yourself stuck in picframe use alt+enter (paste+enter) to bring up a kill menu.

Thanks for posting this image.

I have 3 Audreys and it's cool to have different images on each.

Anyway, I mount 2 shared directories at boot, one for pics and one for mp3s. Do you think there's any way to modify Marius' picframe to act like a screensaver and automatically start cycling through the shared pic directory after a period of inactivity? It would also be cool to be able to exit picframe by tapping the screen.

Thanks again to you, and Jukebox, and Marius, and Sketchy, and ...

AudreyX3,
I totally agree with you. for one, my girl friend doesn't know how to exit picture frame and tapping it to exit would be great. Currently, tapping it switches to the next picture and speeds it up or something? That nice, but tapping and exiting would be better. Someone help us.

2 questions

1.is it be possible to put back the original audrey calendar and address book apps?

2.do you have to specify each file name for picfram or is there a wildcard.

New MessageRE:NEW IMAGE (GUI like windows) based on jukebox3 (modified 0 times) Infinity

1. the answer is yes it is possible to put back the original datebook and address book. Those apps are not very popular and people don't use them much that's why they were taken out in the first place to free up space for other apps. If time permits i might be able to sacrifice a few apps that are currently in this update and put datebook back in.
2. there is a wild card command for picframe i.e.
/nto/bin/picframe /pics/pic%d.jpg 10000
/nto/bin/ is the location of picframe and /pics/ is the location of your pics. pic%d.jpg will display in order, from pic1.jpg>pic2.jpg>etc. 10000 is the time interval in milliseconds.10000ms=10sec.

you can download a free program called IfranView for windows and run a batch rename so all the pics will be in order.

Great job,INFINITY

You mentined a few replies up that modified picframe could be installed and used as a screensaver. Are you referring to RANDOMPIC referred to in the HOMESEER thread? I ftp'd randompic to Audrey but I'm not sure what to do next. Any ideas? I've got picframe working fine now, but I still want to be able to stop it by a screen tap.

email me at kenzhao8@attbi.com

picframe will only start with 1, so you will need to use a program to batch rename all your file to 1.jpg >>>XXXXX.jpg.

i am still updating my image. the following has been added:

1. eBulletin (new scripts to use Paint along with the LED, urgent=blinking LED, attention=LED on,kinda like postit notes with LED indication, good way to inform family members of events)
2.Added phlip in shelf to configure networking
3. Added script to prevent pterm from opening at startup(According to one of my buddies who is using my updated image he does not have pterm opening at startup. I may have accidently changed something after uploading the file to audreyhacking.com, i found it very annoying so if there is any pterm opening at start will be killed immediately. if anyone is having the same problem, you can get an updated image from me or wait 'till i finish everything and get it at audreyhacking)
4.fixed sidebar spacing for phpostal. (it was collasped when opened)
5. updated wm-pop up menu (paste+enter)to include eBulletin,mp3,audrey option,update date&time etc.
5. inspired by Jukebox3.1, i added a phshutdown for a safer shutdown (As of now it only closes all apps, and wait for you to unplug the power cord. I will implement a hardware power button hack this weekend to work along side phshutdown, without a hardware power button phshutdown doesn't do much)
6. i am working on turning picframe into a screen saver(will close when you tap the screen, wish me luck on that)
7. USB support can also be added if i sacrifice some apps but i will leave that to JukeBox, this image does most of what i need audrey to do already. Audrey's brain power is quite limited even with my 333mhz hack i don't think she'll like it.

once i have the picframe screen saver implemented i will update the image at audreyhacking.com

for apps to sacrifice to re-add datebook and address book. I suggest removing the following:
caller ID
ICQ

Any modem stuff
Audio Mixer
phjuke or photon media player (Is there a need for 2 mp3 players?)

I completely agree with adam714, except I would move the caller I.D. to the bottom of the list as a last resort.

This would be wonderful for the remaining Palm addicts like me.

When I created the jukebox3 image I not only deleted about 3.5 megs of files, I added about 4.5 megs of new ones and changed the inner guts of Audrey. To describe what I have done I need probably a couple of hundreds of pages and I don't have the possibilities to do that. The changes in the inner guts of Audrey probably won't prevent you from bringing back Datebook and AddressBook and not to forget the syncing of course. To bring it back you simply have to delete about all the new stuff and you're back at good old original Audrey with a few mods and voyager installed.
You can go two ways to do this. Link the old apps in from a share, but probably easier, take an old Audrey and link all the new stuff in from a share.
You guys want the impossible, unless infinity proves otherwise ofcourse.

I've gotten a few emails regarding bringing old apps back, but i agree with Jukebox. it is difficult to bring back old apps once they are deleted because all the associated files are also removed. It might be easier to start from an old image and add the new stuff. I am not saying it is not possible but very time consuming. Tell you the truth i am not a Computer Science guru i am a professional design engineer and it would probably take me a few weekends to restore Datebook and AddressBook. I am going to attempt to bring those two apps back with hotsync manager but you guys will have to be patient with me. Since audrey can accept flash pages, it is possible to create a flash Datebook and Addressbook. If my attempt to restore good old Datebook, my next attempt is to create a flash version so you can host on your share machine or on the internet. This flash Datebook/Addressbook can be accessed from anywhere so it makes a more ideal replacement.

And don't forget to bring back the whole XML based data storage system for these old apps, they won't work without it.

off topic.

is there anyway to re-arrange shelf items without deleting an re-creating? example: i'd like to move the multimedia and control panel drawers to the top.

the answer is YES you can move the location of shelf items. The .xml file is located in /nto/photon/config/shelf/launch_menu.xml you can move items accordingly, be attentive and you should be fine.

There you go infinity, shelf.cfg would be one of the little hacks I'm talking about for the Audrey Repository. Put a couple of snapshots up with their cfg files and people can make their choice.
I don't think I'm crazy.. Anyhow, you have read probably about the CPU meter problem and the network in my thread.
Also since you like the windoze look on Audrey with shelf, are you familiar with this problem in shelf. It has the exact same feature as "Start" in windoze named "Launch". It works with the XML DataBase storage system in the RTP, but wasn't compatible with the system in Audrey. Shelf crashed on it so we (davincy27 from MQNX and me) left it out. /nto/photon/config/shelf/launch_menu.xmlis one of the files that belong to that feature. Wouldn't it be nice to get that to work? I hope you try and I promise I will copy that hack from you on the spot, or you may want to give it to me by that time.
Happy hacking!

I too would like to see the datebook back in. The addressbook would be semi-useful if you sync w/ a Palm. (And I hate to say it, but Palm support WOULD be handy for many of us.) There really isn't a need to have 2 players on.

BTW, Just wondering.... why not include vnc? I thought vnc was actually a very small package under QNX or am I way off-base? And it's SOOO useful! (Hey, if you can't do it on Audrey, then VNC to a machine that can!)

Just my useless $.02.
