Samba and fs-cifs confusion

I'm trying to connect to a Samba share (Samba 2.2.2, Mac OS X 10.1.3) with fs-cifs. I can in fact mount the share; I've run fs-cifs in "verbose" mode, and the login sequence is working fine. However, when I try to cd into the mounted share, I get a "permission denied" error. Yes, the file permissions on the shared directory are wide open. What's odd about the whole thing is that:

* I can mount and enter the share through a Windows machine, so Samba seems to be working.

* But, I can mount and enter a shared Windows volume through fs-cifs on the Audrey, so fs-cifs would seem to be ok.

I'll admit to a certain level of newbie-itis regarding Samba and the innards of the Audrey, but this one has me stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim
