Netgear EA101c - Having a bad Audrey day...
About to throw this thing up against a brick wall

I'm not sure if the design of the Audrey or just this peice of ####e network adapter, but I've just about had it. This thing is going to drive me to DRINK! I finally get ahold of the Holy Audrey Grail... A KLSI chip NIC (Netgear EA101c), I go through all the rigamarole to change the VID/PID (see macparse threads) on a Win2K box. (Thanks to the person that posted the INF file for Win2K, BTW.)

So Audrey FINALLY recognizes a NIC, but it doesn't work too well. Ok, not to worry. I unplug the audrey, check the connections and fire it back up. Hey hey... It works. 2 mins (if that) later, it says I've disconnected the adapter and won't connect. I disconnect it, wait a few secs, plug it back up... Voila! Up again.

Unfortunately, this "cycle of pain", as I have now deemed it, continues. If it runs for 10 mins, I'm jumping for joy. One thing is for sure. If my Audrey is the problem, I've got 2 friends in the same boat. I've tested this on both of theirs and had the same problem.

For anyone interested, here are the images I've used to test it with:

Stock Audrey (First RC, I believe)
updatedwithshellplus
Jukebox3.1
Infinity1
Infinity1.1
And I used Jukebox USB1 briefly, but I had the same issues I had using a D-Link DSB-650 (Pegasus 1)

Anyone have any ideas or am I tossing this thing out a car window while going 80MPH?

(Sorry for the rant, I'm having a REALLY bad day... First this headache, then my DirecTivo died(1 week old!) and now my receiver is stuck in "Analog Only" mode for no apparent reason... That's OK, I never wanted to watch a movie in DD or DTS again anyway!)

And very soon you can expect a shelf update for USB1, downloadeable as a little file in Audrey that will make the network connection as fast as it can be again.

Pegasus really? Cool! So does that mean that it would work with the D-Link DSB-650?

Hehe... As I said, I tried the pegasus. And I tried it with USB1. Mine didn't work. (And for public record, the only pegasus card officially supported by QNX is the SMC you mentioned). My D-Link's have yet to work.

That's the whole reason I gave up and bought the EA101C.

Anyone have any thoughts on why this thing is so flaky? Anyone else seen this?

I've had exactly the same experience. I was
able to change the id of my EA101 and it
worked perfectly. After a while it would
work for a few minutes, then it would either
hang or the Audry would no longer detect it.
Unplugging it and plugging it back in would
sometimes restore operation for a short time.
Recently I flashed with the images from
jukebox hoping they would help in some way
(many thanks to jukebox for making these
available!). The EA101 worked about the same
and then stopped working altogether. I
wanted to check out the EA101, so I plugged
in back in my PC and tried to re-flash it
back to it's original VID/PID - it was
flakey there as well (macparse would
sometimes hang while reading and a write
appeared to have no effect)

I'm really eager to see this beast work properly. I even ran CAT5 to my kitchen so I could use mine w/ broadband.

I'd just like to have an image with stable networking on my Audrey.

just a thought - I have a few posts on audreyhacking explaining my trials with the ea101.
My audreys were also disconnecting for no apparent reason, anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes after flashing the new pid&vid. I tried reflashing, using downloaded files, copying from one to the other during which time I screwed them up and had to jump pins 6/7 to reset the flash enabling a reload. (I also have the original 3com to fall back on as well) nothing worked until I bent the pins up/scraped the connections in the ea101 cat5 connector. I gently pried them up with a very small hook and scraped them gently with an exacto knife (fine sandpaper would also work) . All 3 ea101s work great now. I have had one unit up 24/7 for over 3 months. I hope your problem is this simple -

I'll definitely give this a shot. I actually purchase another 3 EA101C's in the hopes that (A) one would work in this audrey, and (B) the others would work with other IA's or other linux PC's.

Here's hoping!

Well, I switched EA101C's, I may have slightly fubar'd the process on my first one, maybe the connectors are loose, who knows.

Anyway, I had to set everything to static IP, manual entry of DNS, etc. and now it's working as advertised!

I'm well chuffed.

(P.S. I POSTED THIS WITH MY AUDREY! WOO HOO!)
