I am about to install my audrey in my car... Just a few questions before I start to open her up though... Does anyone know the exact size of the LCD inside audrey? Also, Is the LCD connected to the mainboard directly, or via a ribbon cable or something along that line? Also, if everything works out well, none of the buttons will show on my dash, just the LCD... If anyone has tried somehting like this, please post...any info will help,

Tommy

Tommy,
I don't know the exact size, but I have seen inside.

The main electronics (motherboard and connection daughterboard) are enclosed in a metal shield. There are two ribbon cables coming out the side of this assembly to the LCD/Touchscreen. There is also a power connector for the backlight as well as connectors for the speakers and microphone. If you wish to completely lose the buttons, you can disassemble the shield (remove the jackscrews from the RS-232 connector and then pull the back of the shield off), lift up the motherboard from the front shield and pull the buttons out. Actually, at this point they will fall out.

Tommy,

toward the bottom of the "Kitchen cabinet mount" thread on this forum, you will find a reply by a guy named JonJon. He has removed the LCD and put it in a BEAUTIFULLY handcrafted wooden picture frame. Here is what he posted (and his photo link)...

<<"I had some of the same idea, except I wanted to mount mine on top of the stereo. I use it basically only as an MP3 player and picture frame. Check out these two pictures. I used 1/2" by 2" poplar, a circular saw, a band saw, and a router. I still haven't created a stand for it, I just have it leaning up against a rock... My next version will not have the email button or the circular channel knob. I will just clip it right off of the board, hopefully it won't cause a problem so I don't have to solder it back on... Here are the pics. I will post the designs if anyone is interested.

You should try to contact him. He should have answers to all your questions. Hope this helps.
