Hi all,
I bought a white Audrey off Ebay a couple days ago. When I first bought it, I thought it might be useful to keep track of my babysitting business (I'm 12). But, I learned about Sowbug and Chris Russo and all those other guys who seem like Linux gods or whatever. I have no experience whatsoever with Linux, Unix, QSX, or VI, but I know Windows pretty well. Anyway, When you guys started, what did you do? All I want to do is put a text editor and maybe a digital picture frame. But, when you do that, can you still use the original Audrey software? Does VI come with Audrey? Has anyone tried to see if the free internet provider nocharge.com works with Audrey. Basically, I'm asking what I should do to my Audrey when I get her. Are their DNS servers I need to update on? What exactly is a shell? Any help about anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
Sam

Check out Jukebox's "Audrey On Steroids" in this forum. It keeps all the original Audrey applications, plus adds more. It also has the "Final" 3com upgrade + shell access.

If you are really 12, I'm impressed. All I could think about at that age was the opposite sex. Then again, I guess I am still that way.

Best of luck.

Sam,

Best thing to do is to try and get an image off of the AudreyHacking.com files, and get it to a CompactFlash card. There are numerous ways to do it, and they depend on what version of Windows you're running.

NoCharge.com will indeed work on Audrey, but they've been shutting numbers down, the Shelton ones went down a couple of weeks ago, and I was having trouble with the Olympia ones just today. I guess their business model just petered out.

The vi editor is indeed within Audrey, and it works well. For vi, that is!!! There is a text editor, called Pedit out there, its way easier to write or edit files in, then you can save them to locations on your Audrey.
