While watching TechTV today, I came across a segment that might interest Audrey users. As all of you know, the update servers take a while, and they don't work very well with dial-up. Anyway, they were talking about a program called "Simple Server". What it did was it was a "server" but only existedon your computer. I DO NOT know if or how this works, but the balding 40-year old who demonstrated it got a webpage up and running in under a minute. The only requirement was that you had a valid web address where you could post the page. This got me thinking that if someone had an .edu page, or someone could set up a free one on AOL Hometown, or expage. com, or add the link to thier own page. What this all leads to, is that someone could take the info from the DNS servers, make it into something like a download link, and set Audrey to that link for the setup files. I DO NOT know how to setup a webpage, nor do I know how to post these on the web. The file (it's tiny, only about 189 KB) is available for free download at www.analogx.com. If anyone can see that this would work, maybe this would be an answer to the ever lingering update question. Sam | |
