Save a ton of space

I managed to go from 03% used to 84% used without deleteing a single file. Everybody here probably know about flashlzo to compress files, but do you know some directories can contain compressed files and some can't. File that are in /nto/bin can't be compressed. By simply moving a file to /nto/photon/bin, a file that couldn't be compressed can. A couple of examples.

1. madplay - I had madplay in /nto/bin and it was taking 224k. when I tried to compress it, it would stop working. I moved it to /nto/photon/bin and now it is compressed to 156k and working just fine

2.pfm - in /nto/bin 495k and wouldn't compress. in /nto/photon/bin 223k and working fine

When you check the files in /proc/boot you will see those back in /nto/bin, they are hard coded and cannot be compressed. However if I add files in /nto/bin I have no trouble compressing them or am I missing something? Please let me know.

Davinci,
I think I have madplay compressed to the same size you do, and my file is in /nto/bin/

# cmp -c /nto/bin/madplay
224072 156639 ///nto/bin/madplay

Also just to make sure, did you mean 93% down to 84%? When I use df this is what I see...

/dev/fs0p1 30976 25184 5791 82% /

Does the 82% represent how much space I am using? I am somewhat confused becasue when I use the Action Pallete and look at Memory it is less than 1/4 full bar, which was making me feel that I had loads of room left. Can you help me understand df better. I noticed when I started compressing files the /dev/fs0p1 percentage was going down.

jukebox - I'm not refering to any of the items in /proc. These are stored in a different filessytem and cannot be edited. If you re-read my post you will see I specifically mention non native audrey files.

booya - maybe it's just my audrey, but anything I place in /nto/bin then try to compress doesn't work. anything. I recreated this several times. put something in /nto/bin, compress, break, move /nto/photon/bin compress work.

I am refering to df's usage display. df reports the actual amount of space used on the filesystem. my guess is that the audrey memory usage only reports usage within areas that were designed to contain audrey data. Like /data and /tmp

df should be a more acurate mreprsentation of your audrey's current position

Davinci,
Yeah after your post I started looking closer into the filesystem and I have 6,751kb free. 79% usage on /dev/fs0p1, noticed that most of my apps in /kojak/ are already compressed and I compressed all the apps I have added. You know of any directories that could use compresion? I really thought I had more space free, since I haven't added to much.
