UPDATE for "Audrey on Steroids" V.1-1 RELEASED

New MessageUPDATE for "Audrey on Steroids" V.1-1 RELEASED (modified 0 times) jukebox
Profile
Download it here when it becomes available on Monday shortly after noon: http://www.audreyhacking.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=40
As always you download jukebox-audrey.zip that contains jukebox.audrey1-1 as the image.

This are the highlights for the update of "Audrey on Steroids" V.1-1:
- new intro that blends in with the desktop thanks to Mike
- new shelf windows style resolving all network problems some users had
- new files compressed, Browser removed, 1 meg storage space available
- voyager starts iconified in shelf at boot, needed for mail
- audio plugins in voyager installed
- apps open with focus, colors now yellow active, bleu inactive
- time set properly in Audrey and shelf apps
This update deserves to be the most used version of all my images and has
my signature all over. It has the exact same look and feel of all my images and
works like a charm, not any different from original Audrey with Mail, Datebook,
Addressbook, Palm syncing, ActionPalette, voyager plus various shelf apps.

From now on no new images, except when a new version of QNX comes out
for use in V.USB1-1. I will maintain my Audrey repository and add features there for all images instead.
I cannot answer any questions before Wednesday, but as usual I don't expect much.
Feedback is appreciated.

Enjoy!

It appears I have uploaded a zip file for this image with a CRC error that wasn't noticed on my OS/2 platform but does create a problem with WinZip.
I will let you know here when a new zip becomes available today Wednesday on audreyhacking.com. In the meantime when you are able to unzip this file with the CRC error from the command line (and not with WinZip) it will create a valid image, despite the CRC error.

Feedback is appreciated and in the coming weekend I will make a couple of apps available for download in this image in my Audrey Repository.

Enjoy!

This seems interesting. I asked davinci to verify these numbers, but it seems I have 2.7 megs free in storage space and 4 megs in /tmp. No wonder this image runs like a champ. These numbers are almost exactly the same as in original Audrey. My previous estimates have been too conservative and I never made the distinction between regular storage and /tmp space.

I get the bluescreen email check problem on this image, where when I check the mail, the field where the email message should be, is solid blue.
I have to shutdown and reboot to fix that. In a pinch, I can always hit "reply," and you can read the message in the reply dialogue.

I noticed that the Bluescreen shows up if I leave Voyager on when Audrey goes to sleep for a long time, and Audrey picks up email and lights up the mail LED's.

In this image Audrey boots with voyager running iconified in shelf. Mail needs voyager to run and it does. How long is long with you? The image is only a couple of hours available. If you exit voyager mail doesn't work properly. Anyhow I'll double check and let you know here. In days I haven't had this problem myself and voyager was always running.

Jukebox,

Can you tell me how to iconize Voyager in shelf at boot up? What line I need to add to boot.sh.

Thanks

will start voyager as an icon in shelf. I used it in /kojak/Browser.sh too and it will open at boot as an icon in shelf in my images.

I tried this image last night and noticed that fs-cifs was missing from /nto/bin but was used to mount a remote server in shelf.cfg. You should add this file to your update site.

After playing with this image for a couple hours, I ended up moving to jukebox4. I think jukebox4 is the tightest of your 3 images.

OK done, download fs-cifs from my Audrey Repository: http://www.prins.net/audrey/downloads.html
You may as well download phMp3 too. Both files are compressed already. Follow the easy instructions and you're all set. More downloads to come soon!

I have made suicidal's hack available for download to enable Audrey for MP3 play: http://www.prins.net/audrey/downloads.html
Also you have a choice for MediaPlayer (phplay) and MP3 Player (phMp3) to actually play MP3 files. Please note MediaPlayer will also act as a plugin for voyager.
To enable Audrey for MP3 you download 5 files and you have to chmod +x them all. Directions should be pretty clear.
Would be nice to get some feedabck to know how this works and what difficulties you have if any at all.
Everybody can be a hacker!

I added RealPlayer as a download too. For a basic installation you download the executable only. Follow the directions and Realplayer works as a stand alone app and a plugin in voyager.
I downloaded all the new files in the latest image, V.1-1 and everyhting works. However the compression of the files may have gone lost in the process. The worst that can happen is you have to use cmp to compress the files in the files in /.cmp/.. wherever they are. Let me know how you go.

Just installed the update. It looks great, I like the animated opening screen. I assume there is no way to Voyager except the Control panel?
I tried to listen to a realaudio file that I could listed to before. Realaudio loads then disappears. Went to mp3.com, the song appeared to be playing but no sound. Do I need to download some stuff?

Voyager runs in shelf after boot, this is needed to be able to use mail. Click on voyager in shelf and it maximizes. Never exit voyager, but minimize back to shelf, or you get the famous blue screen in mail.
Using the shelf entry for voyager or the Browser button loads another instance of voyager, but always minimized in shelf.
I'm not quit sure what you mean with update, is it just version 1-1 or do you mean the downloads from my Audrey Repository? If you mean just version 1-1 I suggest you check your network connection. Nothing is changed in the setup except voyager handles RealAudio instead of Browser but that shouldn't make any difference.
If you did the update from the Repository (apparently you did because you use MP3) I suggest you do a chmod +x again on all files you have downloaded and try again after a reboot. If the problem is in this Repository update please try to be more specific and give me the URL's of the streams you have the problem with and I'll try to duplicate the problem. Always check your network connection when you have these problems by pinging one or more known servers in terminal and see what happens. By doing so you help me pinpoint where the problem originates.
At this point no other downloads should be needed, although there is a possibility to extend some features of the RealPlayer, but before considering that I have to know if what's available now works or not. Please let us know here.

sorry about the confusion. What I have is 1-1, nothing else. I do not know what "shelf" is. When I press the browser button nothing happens.
I used to listen to comedycollege.net on my plain audrey, now realaudio launches for a second then disappears. I guess it was pointless to try the mp3, since I don't have the software. Should something happen when I hit the browser button? How do i get to shelf?

thanks

I downloaded all the mp3 and realplayer related files, and edited the realplayer plugin in Voyager. It works!!!. Now I can play realaudio files and bookmark them in realplayer! I may try to install the new shelf that lists these new applications.
Thanks for your help, Jukebox.

With patient coaching from Jukebox I have added the new shelf and all the Audio applications. I have always wanted to listen to mp3's off the internet on Audrey, and tonite I did. The download process is really simple, and I am a complete novice. It is amazing to see all the things audrey can do now. And I learned a lot going throught the process.

Since I have a Mac, I can't use a share for pictureframe (Wish someone would figure out how to do this)
I think i read I could download a few jpg's into audrey and run it that way. All I need is the path for the download and how to configure pictureframe appropriately.
I assume then I can download them from any web site (I assume I can't run pictureframe leaving the pictures on my web site)

You have a couple of options on your mac. I's have you tried Dave. You might be able to mount a Dave share from fs-cifs. Secdond are you using OS X. If so, you should be able to us nfs shares. Third is write a script that will generate and HTML page with a random image. runn that on an http server on your mac, then open voyager without any buttons a little bigger than 640X480, and position your titlebars just off screen. Something Like this

voyage -w655 -h495 -x-10 -y-10 -D m|s|t|l|r -u http://192.168.0.your.mac.server/random.pl

you may have to play with the numbers, but something like this should work. If you right this into a script, similar to what Infinity did with his version of a random Picture screen saver, you can use saver to launch it like a screen saver.

You know now that I've typed this out, I actually like the idea quite a bit. I think this may be my next project. I screensaver that will randomly load webpages. Does anyboy elese think this might e worth the effort?

I have almost succeeded---I used ftp to move a few jpgs into Audrey. I set the path in picture frame to that directory. What I get is I see each picture once correctly. On the second round the pics move one inch to the right leaving a white band. Any ideas why?

OK, now it is perfect. Jukebox advised me to make the jpg's 640 by 479, that fixes it. I you can't mount a share, this is a great full screen slideshow.

juke,

please excuse me if these questions have been asked...

i'm using usb 1-1. have you noticed that sometimes when you spawn voyager and click the "hotlist" menu item you get a new window with the bookmarks instead of the drop down menu? no biggie, just a curiousity.

also, in the "taskbar" there are two things on launch - back drop and notification. what are these apps?

thanks a ton - love the image.

one other kind of off the wall question that some JabberX users might be able to help with. i set the on_message option to kick off the LEDs - that way if i'm browsing and someone sends me a message, i get an alert. it works pretty well. is there an easy way to turn it off from within JabberX? i know i can paste+enter and push the LED off button, but i wondered if there was a key command from within JabberX to run shell commands.

I had it once recently too, hotlist opened. Don't know what too say but voyager won't win the beauty pageant. I don't think it has anything to do with the image at all, just voyager.
About Backdrop and Notification, those kojak apps allow you to use the buttons and have system sounds as well in this image.

On the hotlist issue...I assume you've noticed there are two hotlist buttons. One seems to be for editing the hotlist, one brings the list down.
