I got PhHotKey working yesterday, so I put together and install package.

PhHotKey will allow you to assign command to key combinations. It will also let you reassing the hardware keys on audrey. This means we can drop Backdrop and use bkdmgr adn pwmopts to setup our background images. You can download the installer from http://www.davinci27.org/audrey/software.html

To use the installer, you'll first have to download and run the setup program (many thanks to Sketchy for writing this application). You only have to do this once, so from that point forward, you can use any of the installers.

This sounds very cool. I've been wanting something like this for awhile.

Does it run on an original-ish Audrey? That is, one which still looks like an Audrey (but has shell).

The real question is: does it work with the hardware buttons even when a non-native app has focus? As far as I know, the hardware buttons don't generate keycodes unless a native app is in front, thanks to all the ipc going on. And if there are no keycodes, PhHotKey can't remap them. Curious about this one.

Sketchy - Yes it works no matter what app has the focus. I was in a pterm last night and lauched voyager from the button. On thing I forgot to do in the script was slay Backdrop. I'll update it tonight so that it slays Backdrop. Also, people will need to remove Backdrop from their rm-apps file. I haven't gotten brave enough to indescriminately edit peoples config files.

bholio - I don't know. It'd be great if somone would try it. It should be pretty easy to add all the libs needed to the installer, then just replace any that aren't up-to-date. Another option is a lib installer that will update all of the audrey libs with the QNX6.0 libs.

Davinci27,
Is there a place to get just the execuable so I can copy it myself to the Audrey without using the installer. I'm happy with my systems the way they are and would prefer to manually make any needed library changes as they are needed.

Is PhHotKey from QNX 6.0, or did you write this one yourself?

What happens if you don't slay Backdrop? All I really want is to have the Browser and Datebook buttons work while I'm in phJuke.

You can pull the files out of the install with tail. Here's what you'll need to do.

1. Download the installer http://www.davinci27.org/audrey/install_phhotkey
2. Download tail http://www.davinci27.org/audrey/tail
3. Run these Commands

# tail -c -n 41947 install_phhotkey > install.tar.gz
# gzip -df install.tar.gz
# tar -xf install.tar

4. Read the install script to get an idea of where everything goes.

This was written by phearbear for QNX. The problem was it was written on a PatchB box, so there was a library most people couldn't find. After a good bit of digging, I found the PatchB iso and pulled the library out. I'm not sure exactly what would happen with Backdrop. Since Backdrop is doing pretty much the same thing, It might catch the keys before PhHotKey can.

Hey davinci, I still think you're the only one on this message board who really knows what he is doing. Feel free to do whatever you want with the images I made or parts of them and the scripts I created. My post about "open source" may be of some value for all of us. I'm a kind of done with my images, did everything I planned to do and if you can do more, please do for the benefit of all Audrey users. You were already a proven comodity on this board before my very first post.

Jukebox - Thanks for the vote of confidence. Unfortunately I haven't had time to flash you images and dig through for your mods/hacks. That's a big reason I keep mentioning publishing hacks before publishing images. I'm sure there are things in you image that I'd like to use, but before I can, I need to install the images and dig through the files to see what you did. It's on my todo list, but that's a pretty long list.

One thing I'm thinking about doing the next time I release a MQNX image is releasing both the .cf image and a full copy of the directory structure and contents in a zip. That way people can just unzip the directory on a share and pull out pieces they want or need.

Everybody - The more I use region, the more I find it to be unstable. It crashes from time to time, so instead of starting it from boot.sh, I added it the /config/rm-apps. This will cause region to always restart even if it crashs, audrey wil start it backup. the line you need to add looks like this:

ri,/nto/photon/bin/region,

you have to have the last comma unless this is the very last line in your rm-apps file.

I'm trying to run region and PhHotKey, but both are crashing with memory faults immediately upon launching. This is after downloading and running the install script. My Audrey is pretty much stock. Any ideas?

Yes I'm guessing that some ofyour crippled kojak libs are bringin it down. When I built the installer, I made an assumption of what the user had on their audrey.

You could use tail to pull apart the acrchive and make sure everything got installed in the right place. Let me know what you find and I'll mod the installer so that it works.

This installer process is still so new, that I don't always get everything on the first second or third try. I appreciate your trying and giving feedback. Hopefully soon we'll have it down to and art.

Has anybody else tried using the installer stuff?
