I want to connect my father in law's Audrey to his PC so he can set up a share program and display photos and maybe run PhJuke. He has a dial up ISP. I have him a USB Ethernet adapter for the Audrey, and a 10/100 NIC for his PC, and a crossover cable. Will this work? Can you set up an Audrey to use it's modem AND a USB adapter without switching back and forth all the time?
I believe this should work with the crossover cable. Especially with my V.USB1-1 you can do this without switching back and forth when setup for modem connect. You can do it with any image setting it up for USB connect and autostart /kojak/rsmodem too I would say.
As long as /kojak/rsmodem is running you'll have access to the modem too. I don't know what will happen with the routing after dialing in, probably all traffic will be routed over the modem, you'll just have to try and see what happens exactly after dialing in and disconnecting again. It very well may work as you want. With a standard Audrey and most images you have no possibility to setup custom routing. Only my V.USB1-1 will allow you to do that if needed by enabling the full tcpip stack.
Is anyone using the Audrey's internal modem for dialup Internet/Email access AND also using a USB/Ethernet network access for shared music/pictures etc??? How did you set things up?
