Acid 2.3 lookup problems

I can't get Palm lookup to work. I create an entry and tell Acid to use it but it still comes up unknown. I put the same entry in the text lookup and it works. One more thing. Is the text database dynamic? I put new entries in it but my Acid doesn't use them until it reload Acid.

I am also having the same problem. My palm address book is on a shared drive. Is it something to do with the delay associated with network access?

The Palm lookup only looks in the /data/hotsync directories on the local Audrey filesystem.

That's weird.
My "stock" Aud puts the addresses in /data/hotsync/_kojak$name/AddressDB.gdbm. Does yours put them someplace else?

davistw1.. Thats what he said. "/data/hotsync directories"

Mine is working. I just added contacts with thier firstnames and a phone type (home, work, or mobile) from the dropdown box. Then entered the phone number. The format for the phone number I used was (555)555-5555 I do not know if format matters but it worked for me.

One thing that wasn't working properly for me was the Out Of Area calls. If I had ACID setup for check address database first then text database the Out Of Area calls would show up as a call from "Tina (Email)" for the one user that I have an email entry for. This may be a bug and if you need a better explanation Sketchy let me know.

My workaround was to create the text database with only the "Out Of Area" line and had ACID look in text database first and then adress database.

If anything's wrong with the palm DB lookup code it's not sketchy's fault! He graciously integrated code that I shared with him. I only got to play with a beta version so I don't know for sure what happened after that, but in that version you needed full 10 (or 9) digit phone numbers in your Palm DB and from the callerID if you just have 555 1234 in your Palm DB then it wont work.

it looks in every palm DB under the hotsync directory.

Booya: I'd really like to trach down that bug that was showing someone's (email) address when a call came in. please get in touch with me (alex AT bloodyeck , com) does the email address look anything like a phone number? if you'd share your AddressDB.gdbm and the number I'd sure be grateful, but I would of course understand your privacy concerns.

Alex

I had a similar experience with the person's email entry popping up when I answerd the phone before the callerID data made it to the Audrey. I'm assuming that because I didn't put a phone number in that entry (only the email address), the "No Data" data of nothing (no number) matched. Maybe booya's "Out of Area" also sent no phone number data which lead to the "Tina(email)" match. I added a bogus number to my email-only entry, but I haven't tested it yet...

I also have an email name [In my case "Wolfgang (email)"] showing up whenever the call is "Out of Area" or "Privite Number". Wolfgang is a fully "filled in" contact in my palm database, meaning that I have all of the info for him loaded into the database, I have no idea why it keeps showing his name whenver caller id data is unavailible??

not a real problem, because this guy would never call me at home, so I always know it's a telemarketer or somthing, it's just a curious bug.

still a great app--- I love it!!

Whoops, I'm afraid Allen is correct. I forget to tell Alex that there are three non-numeric "numbers" that can be looked up: "private", "out of area", and "no data". The Palm database code isn't expecting these, and so it's probably not handling them correctly. My fault for not mentioning it.

We'll get it fixed for the next version (no idea when that might be). In the meantime, here is a workaround: Make a text database with entries for those three special cases, and in the Options/Lookups panel, choose the option for "look first in text database, then Palm". This will cause ACID to find the "private", "out of area", and "no data" calls in the text database so it won't pass them along for testing in the Palm database.
