Well, I've got past the occasional freeze on boot (if by past I mean I put up with it when it happens). I got myself a usb ethernet card, a 3c19250, as many seem to suggest. It was factory suggested anyhow and I just want to get this thing talking to the internet. I'm connecting to a linksys router and I set up everything with the static ip info outlined here. Basically, I set the ip address to 192.168.1.100, the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, my router ip is 192.168.1.1 and I set the primary and secondary DNS to what everyone has been using recently. Didn't work. I turned the thing off for a while and reconnected it. Didn't work. It doesn't get the time automatically, and when I put all that info in, it isn't able to connect to any websites, or even the router. The connection should be fine. The USB ethernet card seems to be fine, however, when the ethernet cable is plugged in, both the link and activity light are permanently on. My only theory is that I'm telling the audrey to use a specific IP when my router automatically assigns them, which may cause a conflict. I'm not sure how sound that is. Can anyone help me out?

I have the same router and card. I use the DHCP settings, letting the router assign the ip address.

I wanted to always know the ip address of my audrey, so dhcp wasn't the right answer for me (possibly why you want it hard-coded?). BUT, the best way to get the right settings for your audrey (IMHO) is to:
1. Set it for dhcp
2. Boot it up
3. Then look to see what address and other such info it got from the router
4. Scribble down the results
5. Hardcode your ip address BELOW the dhcp address (my router defaulted to start at 192.168.1.100 for dhcp - which can cause a problem if you hard-code into the dhcp range).
6. I chose settings like 192.168.1.1 (gateway), 255.255.255.0 (subnet mask), and 192.168.1.10 for the ip address.
7. The DNS entries I used were whatever the router gave. Also, whatever your regular computer is using for DNS will work too... Don't use what you find in a tutorial..

In this way, you then know which address is your audrey's for Audrey utilities, and it doesn't interfere with the router's dhcp client table.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of your help, by the way.

Is there any 100meg usb ethernet adapters that are compatible (either flashed or out-of-box) with the audrey, or it's updated version? I think I just found the problem. This is my current set-up.

Audrey --(3c19250 ethernet adapter)--> Netgear Hub --> Linksys Router --> Cable Modem

The problem resided with the netgear hub, which is solely 100meg. I'm suprised I didn't even run this through my mind. If there is no ethernet adapter that can be compatible with the audrey and would support this, I guess the solution is a new hub (?).

yup, get a new hub. Cable modems ca't go fast enough to challenge 10meg ethernet, nor can the usb adapter.
