Need:
Audrey capabilities are multiplying rapidly now. It would be great if one could just say "yeah, I want that too" w/o having to go through excruciating details once things have been ironed out.
Options:
The marimba update server is intended to give everybody the same upgrade. Since the Audrey is currently limited in space, we can't put every new capability into the latest upgrade - machines would fill quickly. Also, the upgrade server requires a server running specialized software(marimba), which generally means it lives on a low bandwidth machine.
Possible solution: (let's brainstorm, folks!)
We could create a Channel (here he goes again!
) that would be "Update System". This channel generally stays in place. It is an html page that offers the choice of updating the AvailableChannels. The AvailableChannels would have, in addition to the old style URL pointers, a channel for each Audrey feature, such as MP3 playing, and USB keyboard/mouse support. One adds a feature channel, updates it, gets a web page that says basically, "click here to install the feature you just downloaded", and voila! the feature is properly placed in the system, and any additional user interaction required (hopefully none) is detailed on the html page for that feature.
What do people think? Yea, Nay, but change x and it'll be better,...
From the responses I've gotten about the old-style channel server, folks here aren't interested, so I'd need some positive feedback on this, and hopefully some assistance as well.
Thanks for your consideration,
