I'm trying use get a Linksys USB100M (that's all they had at BestBuy) to hook up my new Audrey to ethernet.

I've gone through the EEPROM reprogramming listed at:
http://www.3rdmoon.com/crusso/audrey/#Can%20I%20use%20USB%20Ethernet%20adapters%20other%20than%20the%203Com%20certified%20model?

And I used the values vendor=0bda and id=8150, as reported by my Linux box in /var/log/messages.

Now, when I plug the ethernet adapter in and try to browse or do anything net related on the audrey, I get this message:

Faild to detect USB device.

Any advice to get this problem fixed is greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert - but I wonder if that device is supported (I don't see anyone here who has used it successfully - which doesn't mean that it won't work, just that no one here has done it).

Did you put in the 3Com vid and pid? (0506, 03e8)? That seems to be the combination that people are using that works. Is that what linux reports after flashing it? If not - that is your problem - the vid and pid must be the 3Com values. Period.

Here is a long thread discussing the reflashing of USB ethernet devices:

I had this same problem flashing a Netgear EA101. Assuming I did something wrong, I tried reflashing several times,
but without success. I re-read through the numerous posts here and on audreyhacking.com, and saw that someone
mentioned how Audrey is fussy about which USB port the adapter is plugged in to. Sure enough, when I plugged the EA101
into the other USB port.... success.
