I too purchased an Audrey from someone off eBay. And I too was getting seriously frustrated with the updating situation.

Here's how I finally got it to work:

1. I set my router (NOT the Audrey) to the 'spoofed' DNS settings.

2. I set my Audrey to the DNS for the router (in my case, and probably yours, it is the router's address... 192.168.0.1 and 4.2.2.2 for secondary).

3. I set manual update times for every 30 minutes starting at 2:00 a.m. (figured there might be a little less traffic then).

4. I walked away and let Audrey do her thing. I think the most frustrating part is waiting for something to happen. Don't sweat it!

I left mine until I woke up at 5:30 that morning... and lo and behold, the first update had happened! The others were all easy and took a total of perhaps 20 minutes.
Just follow the instructions given here (or at http://www.audreyhacking.com ) and remember to set your clock each time you unplug/replug the power.

Let me know if this works for you.

It's working!!! Thanks for the tip. I was actually thinking about trying that, but you confirmed it for me. I can't wait to see what this brings.

That sounds like a great tip. I have exactly the same problem with my new Audrey from ebay running through a Linksys router/hub. I am not sure how to set up that spoof DNS stuff, but somehow I will figure it out.

Thanks again,

John

An excellent source for information for me has been the site I've linked below. It has easy to follow instructions for updating, backing up on a compact flash card, and adding the "shutdown" and "shell" buttons to your Audrey options. There's not a lot of advanced stuff here but it gives you a good starting point:

http://www.shed.com/tutor/audrey.html

(The main site focuses on home automation and shows how Audrey can be an integral part of it. Very cool.)

Let me know how it goes for you...

This evening I tried setting my DNS on the computer to the router at 192.168.1.1 and setting my Linksys router to the DNS spoof site. The Audrey still refuses to update. Is there some obvious setting that I am missing?

Please help.

Hmmm... my settings for Audrey were: 192.168.0.XXX (doesn't really matter), 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1 and 4.2.2.2 (don't forget to restart Audrey by unplugging/replugging adapter from outlet - otherwise new settings don't take effect). My router, as I recall, was on DCHP... and I may have put the router on manual, filling the addresses the router gave me (was probably not necessary). I added the spoofed DNS addresses, and then...

I walked away.

When I came back, update #1 had happened. I knew I was on my way!

(Don't forget to change everything back to normal after you get all the updates.)

I'm no expert, but let me know if I can help any further. I'm bogged down trying to flash images with CF cards, but that's another topic alltogether.

I am out of town, but I left my Audrey hooked up. When I left, I still could not get it to update. Does it only update in the middle of the night? I think that I left it checking every 30 minutes under the broadband connection options.

Believe it or not, you need to leave the broadband connection UNselected under where you set the updates - even if using a broadband connection. I know, not a lot of it makes sense, but by selecting the broadband connection, the system is on standby, waiting for any updates to show up. When it's not selected, it uses the times you entered in.

Hopefully this will work for you. Sorry if I failed to mention it earlier!

Thanks. I will make sure to uncheck the broadband connection.

What would happen if I just flash my Audrey with Ultimate Infinity? Would that bypass the need to update?
