I have not run across anyone who has successfully updated Audrey by serial port. From everything I have seen, it should be possible, but using QNX operating system.

There isn't a way to network using the serial port.

If it is just voyager that is messed up, does Audrey boot and can you get shell access? If so, you may be able to dial up with her and get things worked out by ftp'ing files to her.

Actually networking with the serial port can be done, although I can't give you the detailed steps. I recall seeing a post from someone who did this but I couldn't find it in a quick search. In general you would need the pppd scripts and executables from QNX and get it set up to run on Audrey's serial port. Windows direct cable connection is just a ppp connection, so once you get pppd running on Audrey you can connect.

Unfortunately you are in a catch-22 situation. You need a network running to get the pppd files onto Audrey in the first place, unless you can find an image that already had the pppd daemon stuff already on it.

Another option is to use a terminal program on Audrey. Again it has been a while, but there is one from QNX that I have used in the past. Look through the external modem threads, I had to use a terminal program on Audrey when I was setting that up. You can use that on Audrey to connect with a null-modem cable to Hyperterm on Windows, and then do zmodem or xmodem file transfers. Again, not much use if you can't get the right files onto your Audrey in the first place unless your image already has them installed.

Can you dial your ISP and get access with Audrey?

Do you have free webspace with your ISP like alot do?

If so, you could dial up with your PC, ftp the files to your webspace, logoff and dial up with Audrey and ftp the files from your webspace.

Heya chopper,

I have been thinking on this and have a couple questions.

1. I am guessing you don't have a network adapter. Is this correct?
This one, of course, is the easy way.

2. Do you happen to have 2 phone lines or a place you can dial up to your PC using Audrey?
I am thinking that if you dial up to your Win PC, you could get to a shared folder. You would have to run DialUp Server on your PC. I haven't had to do that in a loooong time, but remember finding the info for it at http://www.helmig.com

3. Do you know which files you messed up to allow voyager to run?
I could possibly get you an ftp account for a short period of time. You could either let me know what files you need or you could connect to it with your PC to put them up and then with Audrey to get them down.

Thanx! no i dont have the network adapter!!! i dont have 2 phone lines but i can dialup with aud from my neigbors house. but once i can serve the files how do i tell aud to retrieve them? if possible i would like to change my image to one of infinity's images by ftping it to aud to the cf card using shell to retrive it. but if this isnt possible i know that the missing file is the one that goes in /bin!

If the dial-up to your PC works and you can access a shared drive then you just cat the file to the CF card:
1. fs-cifs -a //machinename:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/SharedDirectory /DirectoryNameYouWantToUseOnAudrey guest guest <- where machinename is the netbios name and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your Windows IP
Such as: fs-cifs -a //machine1:192.168.1.1:/AudreyImages /Win95 guest guest
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Pop open shell.
4. devb-cf
5. cat /PathToYourPC/ImageName.cf > /dev/cf

For #1, the Windows IP is the one Windows assigned itself on the modem. It will also assign your Audrey an IP. I believe you can see the IP in the Dial-up Server window after connected. Check helmig's site (noted above) for the whole Dial-up Server setup.

Or, if you can get voyager working again, I believe it is possible to save an image from the web straight to the CF card. Infinity (I am sorry if I got the wrong person...getting old ;) posted this on one of the boards.

Another option that I have done for people in the past is just mail me a CF card along with a return postage paid mailer and I'll put an image on it for you.
