HELP - Kill Browser via http ???
Kill Browser

I'd like to know how to kill the browser using an http://localhost/slaybrow.shtml call.

Object being I would like to map a knob/filmstrip to allow the browser to be tuned-out

So far I've tried the execv trick, no luck. I made a slaybrow.shtml pointing to the slaybrow/slaybrow.sh

I suspect there's a permissions issue.

Any thoughts welcomed

Does the script work when you run it from the shell?

If not, what error do you get?

Did you:
chmod +x scriptpath/scriptname

Yep works dandy in shell. In the browser I get an error -8 returned.

Scripts are pretty simple
slaybrow.sh - slay Browser &
slaybrow (link to execv)
(I've tried these in the /kojak and the /kojak/CGI dirs neither worked)
... so

Thinking it may be premission related I put chown and su on the audrey ... and messed a bit with the kill, and slay permissions ...Not this

Linked slay and kill into CGI, /kojak .... nope

ok so I added an 'su 0' to the shellscript .. Not this either.

So that's why I asked.

Seems I read that slinger SSI's are done as another user (thus the su) It'd be nice if execv did the executions as root that might do it.

again killing the browser via filmstrip is what I'm after. Easier to get to the real desktop and shlef menus ....
I want filmstrip channels so the technically challenged (in my house) can just 'tune-in' the channel.

Thanks
pjf

Let's see your slaybrow.shtml. I've found the SSI parser to be really picky and unforgiving.

Sorry I didn't post sooner, busy with Holdiays etc...

The SlayBrow.shtml is

<html><head><title> Slay the Browser </title></head>
<body><!--#config cmdecho="ON" -->
<!--#exec cmd="/kojak/SlayBrow" --></body>
</html>

SlayBrow is a symlink to /nto/bin/execv
SlayBrow.sh is:

slay Browser &

when I run SlayBrow from terminal it's OK and does what it needs to.
When run from the filmstrip, Browser or remote I get...

kill(47165055, 15) : Operation Not Permitted
^pid^no^

I remember somewhere reading that slinger is running uid -2 ... hmmmm .....
maybe uid (-2),32767 on the SlayBrow.sh ... not sure ...

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

Ok figured it out
.shtml file
<html><head><title>Slay</title></head><body>
<!--#config cmdecho="OFF" -->
<!--#exec cmd="shellex slay $QUERY_STRING &" -->
</body></html>

Need to chmod a+x shellex

Works great
