Verifying a CF Image before burning it to Audrey
Verifying a CF Image before burning it to Audrey

I'm burning new image to the CF on Audrey and want to verify that it works before I flash Audrey with the new Image. Is there a way to boot Audrey from an image on the CF?

I have tried to hold down the calander (upper right button) while booting and get the following from the serial port.

3Com IPL
XLv01.08
========
Loading from CompactFlash
Config : 0000848A

But this seems to be the same image that is in Audrey, not the new one that should be on the CF. I'm I doing everying right and something else is messed up?

I don't know if this matters or not but I've mounted a drive from a PC to Audrey and verified that works. Then I use cat /mnt/image.cf > /dev/cf to get the new image on to the CF card. Does that sound correct also? I should not have to do anything else to erase the flash right?

Thanks!

I noticed that myself and thought something was wrong. But that's just how it works.
As long as it does boot up all the way to the main screen, then the image is good.

The only difference I noticed (when booting from a CF image) was that
the display suddenly looked very bad/flickery.

I have re-imaged my Aufrey 3 or 4 times already and everything went
fine as long as it booted ok when I held the calendar button to
boot the CF image to test it first.

I've had the exact same experiences. The screen gets flickery and I wasn't sure what was going on. But I could flash from the backup just fine.
