I must have had a faulty power supply or something and the result is two dead Audreys! I opened them and most of the circuits are still getting power. If you live in the Bay area and feel like giving it a try let me know! You can contact me directly on brainor@panonica.com.
Thanks

First I learn this:

My dead audrey can start...

Holding the Audrey top left and bottom right, and pressing twisting (quite hard). Think press with left tumb for direction - sometime she starts.

Next:

With case off and now looking at back, a small amount of pressure on bottom left, towards bottom of flash card area - and up she comes - consistantly.

Sounds like a fairly common problem with some of the early Audreys. If you've got experience and the equipment for working with SMD ICs, then you may be able to fix it, or AudreyUpgrade.com can fix it for you.

Depends. What surface mount needs to be re-worked? Small chips are OK; things like processors suck.

(Meanwhile I folded up a bit of a cigarette pack, and ducktaped it inside the case - all this Canadian can afford right now - works good though).

Sounds a lot like the problem I had with my Audrey. There is a small daughterboard near the flash card area. This board has a pink and white wire leading from it to the CCFT (cool compact flourescent) lamp that lights the display.

I removed the entire motherboard and found that one of the contacts that connects that board to the mother board was never soldered. This board is an inverter that powers the back light and allows you to see what is on the screen.

A quick drop of solder took care of the problem.

I hope this helps.

Todd.
