Wireless Ambitions
Need clarification on wireless options

So for Christmas my wife buys me an Audrey as a new hobby. I guess I was driving her nuts. I currently share a DSL connection using my Airport. I have the 3com USB NIC and would like some help understanding my wireless options to get Audrey online wirelessly.
I have seen a few discussions on the WET11 Wireless Eth. Bridge. What I am looking for is the difference between that and a USB WAP. I have a compaq wireless connection point (CP-2w)that I picked up for cheap. I was wondering if I could use either one of them instead of buying yet another wireless gadget that I'd have to explain to the wife.
In that the connection point has rj-45 ports on the back, could I connect it to the 3com USB NIC using a crossover cable? And if yes, how would I configure the wireless address?
If that wouldn't work, I also have a iPaq USB WAP sitting around doing nothing. Could I use it?
I understand the basics of wireless and have been using it for a while, but get lost in the "pinging", DHCP, DNS, etc. I'd love some advice and direction on getting Audrey online.

TIA

nato

just a quick note to you: USB wireless adapters WILL NOT WORK without serious technical modding of the Audrey's OS. Buy the WET11.
