I have a challenge for all of you. I just purchased a refurbished Audrey, and I'd like to hook it in to my existing conventional wired network. However, it would be quite difficult (and ugly) to run an ethernet cable from my hub into my kitchen, which is where I'd like to keep the Audrey.
What is the cheapest way for me to do this? Assume I currently have no wireless equipment.
Unfortunately the only wireless solutions are Ethernet to Ethernet adapters. Generally ‘seamless’ types like the ones made by Alvarion BreezeNET or blackbox. This should work for your needs but it won’t be cheap. Expect to spend about $400 for such a setup.
Currently (I believe) there are no usb wireless adapters what will work with the Audrey.
The best thing is to get a wireless access point, or wireless router, and get a WET11 from LinkSys. This is a wireless bridge that you can plug your ethernet adapter into.
I went with the WET11 (about $110 online w/ shipping) with an Orinoco WAP - works great. I use it primarily to play mp3s from a mount on my server. Do not fool with the Dlink AP900 -inexpensive, but it only works with another AP900 configured as a WAP.
