No sooner did I establish root shell for my new Audrey, I blew it up - won't boot. Stops and freezes at the initial 3com screen.

I was trying to back up my newly updated system to cf. I issued this command:

cat fs0p0 fs0p1 fs0p2 /dev/cf

of course, it should have been redirected: cat fs0p0 fs0p1 fs0p2 > /dev/cf

Question: Can somebody assure me that I can reflash it, no harm done? I am concerned because I'm trying every way I can find to flash my 32MB Sandisk cf with infinityultimate1.1a with no luck. Booting from cf gives me FATAL: Invalid image XLv01.12

I suspect this is due to user error on my part, but I've been at this a while and having a dead Audrey on my hands has me a little worried.

BTW, why would overwriting the cf device driver render the Audrey unbootable? Am I correct in believing this is what I did? I was a Unix newbie 10 years ago when I put it down until last nite.

Thanks

Hi,

It sounds like you could still re-flash the audrey with the 32MB Sandisk, being that you are getting to the 3com screen is a good sign (IMHO). I would recommend that you check out Infinity's site (http://home.attbi.com/~kenzhao8/index.html). His Infinity images are a great replacement for the basic Audrey image, and add a ton of functionality. If you want a better mail app, you may want to go with Jukebox's image tho.

Good luck,
Mike

I am not sure why the command you did would hurt Audrey. Unless it filled up a temp area or something.

The command you used shouldn't have overwritten anything. Since it wasn't redirected, that command should have concatenated the four files fs0p0, fs0p1, fs0p2, and /dev/cf and output them to the standard out (screen).

But, I do agree that flashing it should work fine. I can't help with making the CF card usable from a PC. I have always been able to write to them with Audrey.

I've maid dumb mistakes like that.. I was just recently unmounting stuff and I must have umount the wrong mount point. Anyways ways, after doing this I had the same problem as you. I have a thread on how-to figure out a CF card size so you can reflash it. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't reflash your audrey.. Go here http://www.madtechview.com/modules.php?name=Forums
