InfinitySpecial1.1* -invalid IFS
can't load infinity images

When I try to load an InfinitySpecial image it doesn't work. I've tried 1.1a and 1.1s. This is the first time I've tried to load someone else's image (my own seem to work fine).

When I load the CF image to memory without flashing (reboot w/ datebook button), it says "loading from CompactFlash" as usual, but eventually the screen goes blank and stays that way. I unplug/plug the audrey and she returns to normal.

When I try to flash the image to the Audrey (reboot w/ datebook & power button), it says "loading from CompactFlash", and then says "FATAL: Invalid IFS." Again, I unplug/plug the audrey and she returns to normal. The only reference to this error message that I've found isn't very helpful.

To make the flashcard, first I remove the ".zip" in the name (since it is supposed to be fake). After that, I've tried running "mkcf" on infinityspecial1.1*.cf to create the correct file size and then "ntrw" the resulting image to my flash card. I've also simply run "ntrw" on infinityspecial1.1*.cf and tried booting off the card. Both of these methods show the same results (as described).

Any thoughts? Could it be that when I download Infinity's (fake) .zip file to my XP machine, Mozilla converts it out of binary into ASCII or something? Is there another non-browser-download method of obtaining the image? (I don't have Voyager, and can't download directly to Audrey) Or maybe I am missing a required step when gettting it on the flashcard.

Thanks
Tincture

Ok, more weirdness.

ntrw stopped working. I tried it about 10 times, and it would always spend a few minutes writing, and then would give me a "parameter is incorrect." And Audrey still gave me the Invalid IFS thing. Same error happens no matter what .cf i use, even my own backups that had previously worked.

Eventually I tried copying the infinity .cf to the CF card via the audrey's shell this way:

fs-cifs -a //Computer:1.1.1.1:/aud /aud guest guest
to mount the dir with the .cf images
devb-cf
allows audrey to recognize flash card insertion
cat newimage.cf > /dev/cf

I rebooted with datebook button, and it told me "Loading from CompactFlash" and booted. Woohoo. Except that it isn't InfinitySpecial, it's my current version. However, the screen is all flashy and slow, so I know it's running from RAM. So I try to re-flash the audrey by rebooting with Power and Datebook. It goes through the motions like it's doing it BUT: It still boots my current version into RAM. When I regular-reboot, it's still my current version (though not in RAM).

OK, I think, maybe i'm a dumb#### and i accidently used "mkcf" on one of my own backups, instead of infinity's verions. So i start from scratch: "mkcf" Infinity's file, and use "ntrw" (which now works, no parameter error) to put the newspecial.cf on my card.

Datebook-reboot with card: still current verion
Datebook-power-reboot with card: still current version

####ing crazy.

Any ideas?
Tincture.

It's got to be your card size. Check here man on how to figure out the correct card size as the audrey see's it. http://www.madtechview.com/modules.php?name=Forums Also dude don't leave the CF in when you turn the audrey off

I thought it might be my card size, but I checked with devb-cf, and it's the same as it has always been.

However, this morning I got it to work. I have no idea why, but when I wrote the .cf file to the card via Audrey instead of "ntrw" and a card reader, it worked. Here's how:

1) insert CF card into audrey.
2) share a folder on your PC with the xxxx.cf file you want on your card.
3) fs-cifs to your shared folder
4) type devb-cf to make audrey aware of the CF card.
5) type cat SharedFolder/xxxx.cf > /dev/cf and wait.

This writes the xxxx.cf file to your card. When it finished, I no longer got the "invalid IFS" error. When I do a reboot w/ datebook it loads from flash properly with no error message.

However, now I have a new problem: i have no idea if it's related, but my reboot with datebook+power doesn't seem to force an update. I posted about it here.

hey by chance do you leave the cf card in when you reboot the audrey... I have heard of people corrupting there images by doing this. I always pull the card before a shutdown/reboot. Glad to here you got it to work

Generally, I always take it out, but I bet I did accidently leave the card in on a reboot at one time or another. You're probably right, and that caused my initial problems.

I can't seem to even download the image, the audrey browser (1.02.08.01 FINAL, 4/23/2001) says "unknown media type" or somthing like that, Im guessing that maybe it is because my current rom lacks the "+shell" thing, but I have a shell option in the options menu.

Im new to this audrey thing, and I need to get infinityUltimate or something on it...

I may just breakdown and buy a cf reader for my xp box...

You need to have the updated version of Voyager to download an image directly to Audrey. The stock image (final or not) will not allow downloading directly to the CF card slot in Audrey.
