Hi:

I'm really sorry to ask the same old question everyone else is asking AGAIN but here goes...

I'm trying to setup my internet access: My config is this:

Linksys router capable of 10/100:
DHCP enabled
DMZ disabled ( tried it both ways )
192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0 gateway IP/mask

Audrey:
Static IP of 192.168.1.200 / 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of 192.168.1.1
Set primary and secondary DNS addresses to that of my ISP

Using the official netgear USB dongle - link light is on

I cannot get any web sites to come up; I get the following error:

Error: DNS Failure
The Domain Name System could not find an IP address for the given hostname.
Unable to access http://www.whatever.com

What is the stinkin' problem.

Please do not pass this by without tossing out your wisdom. I need someone to hold my hand through this!

Thanks,

Slowdaw

Have you modified the dongle to work with Audrey?

Not sure if you already did this, but can you open up a shell and ping anything by #, for example, 192.168.1.1? Can you bring up the router's default setup page in a browser session? http://192.168.1.1 ?

If you can't do the above and you've already hacked your netgear usb dongle (to trick it into appearing like a supported usb dongle to the audrey), the power up sequence would next... First, power up the router. Second, power up the dongle. Lastly, power up Audrey. I have had lots of problems when the order wasn't "just so". My wireless WAVIT! unit doesn't auto-connect after my router goes offline, so every single time I change a setting in my (wireless) router, I have to power cycle the wavit so I can talk to the audrey. In the past I had a wired router, and when I used dhcp on the audrey, sometimes they would refuse to talk. That's when I forced an IP address on Audrey that was routeable by my router (192.168.1.xxx).

Hope something helps.. At least after the last 2 posts you should have a feel for what is wrong, and what to fix.

Thanks for the replies:

Yes. This is a 'modifed for audrey' dongle. I can not ping to another statis IP but I will try again after trying the boot sequence you suggested.

Stay tuned for further developments...
