Audrey and W2k3 small business server
It doesn't work

Hi,

My audrey has been serving me as a dedicated mp3 player for a while now.

I recently migrated my server from win2k to win2k3 small business server.
Now the audrey will not authenticate. I am assuming this is a problem with the server config, since the audrey worked perfectly on the w2k box.

According to event logs, the audrey authenticates, but the share never mounts, and I get a bad file descriptor error.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have the share on the W2003 SBS box set up so it allows read-only access to "everyone"? This is not the default behavior. Also, the NTFS permissions to the path/files also needs to be set up for read-only for "everyone". I'm assuming you could pass a username/password from Audrey to the w2k box with no problems because you didn't use Active Directory for authentication and used simple file sharing on the old box. I do not know if w2003SBS will let you do this and definitely know it's not the default behavior.

If anything I say suggests a solution that works, please post how it gets done. If not, I'll dig through the w2003 server manuals I have to see if anything in there might shed further light.

Hi,

I did set the permissions to "Everyone"

Perhaps its a problem with caps in the password. I don't know.

/blah - this is so annoying.. This is the last major bug left in this setup.. Exchange, isa, everything else is perfect.

You need to disable Simple File sharing on your win2k3 box. I have a step by step @ my site... First unshare your current shares then reboot. Then go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, Click on the View tab, and scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck Simple file Sharing. I can't remember if that requires a reboot... Then share your folder's back out than bang your all set. If you have any additional question please visit my site http://www.madtechview.com. check our forums for how-to's !!!!!!!

Please let me know if this helps

There doesn't appear to be anything related to 'simple file sharing' on windows 2003 server.

I found the answer...

To access shares from non windows devices in 2k3 server, you will need to disable "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications" under Domain controller security -> security settings.
