Permission problem with mounted share on Win2k

This is likely a Win2K question, but I hoped someone here might have some insight. I created a win2k account for when using fs-cifs to mount a shared folder on my Win2k box. This account has "user" privilege. Using fs-cifs to mount with this user account works just fine for browsing through the directories under the share. But when it actually comes down to reading the files under the share, i get a "permission denied" when I try to access the file through the mount on Audrey. And yes, I have set the shared folder to be read-only, I've gone into the administrative tools on win2k and set the share to specifically give access to the new-user-account... still, no luck.

When I mount the share using an administrator/password login, it works just fine.

Any thoughts? I've poked through about all the shared settings on win2k I can find.

regards,
-j

If it's an NTFS filesystem, check the permissions on the files and directories - not just the share.

Yep, I checked those and they look okay. So still a bit of a mystery.

More data on this issue:

1) When the share is a folder on Drive D:, when I mount with "User" privilege, I can browse the folder but not read any files (even though they are marked as Read-only). But when I mount with "Administrator" privilege I have full access.

2) When the share is a folder on Drive C:, mounting with "User" privilege gives me full read access (what i want).

As best I can tell, the protections on the drive D: mount are the same as the Drive C: mount. Did I read somewhere in this forum that you shares HAD to be on drive C: ?? Any clues to what is going on here?

Are both partitions NTFS?

Well, trying again with the IIs web sharing initially turned off seemed to make things work.... weird.
