Can an Audrey be used with a proxy? - Please help my 700+ K-6 students
Using two Audreys behind a school's proxy server / firewall proves challenging.... READ ON...
Ok, now that I've got your attention... let me jump right on in.
This summer I aquired two Audreys and network cards via eBay (you know the drill). Everything worked with the standard 3com image at home on my DSL connection. No worries.
Now that I'm back at school, I want the my students (http://www.techkid.org) to be able to use the Audreys for a wide variety of online tasks. But there's a catch... our internet gets filtered (trust me, this is a GOOD thing) through a proxy server. Any traffice originating within the district must use either proxy.domain.org and port 7049 OR a pac file like http://www.domain.org/proxy.pac. The Audrey doesn't seem to accept any proxy settings. Got any ideas for me?
Now, I'm not totally stuck for two reasons. One, I can access files on our local domain (http://www.berkshire.k12.oh.us) without using a proxy. I setup a sample site for my kids to use at http://www.berkshire.k12.oh.us/techkid/audrey which works fine, but everything (including images) must go through the proxy if it's not on that server (which I only have access to via FrontPage). Secondly, I have a method of pulling content (that would otherwise be blocked by a filter) and which I *may* be able to reverse it and to "reserve" content within the district w/out needing to use a proxy.
<<On a closing note... my two year old daughter *loved* having the Audey at home and would scream, "I have an email!" at the top of her lungs. And there's nothing quite like sending a voice email to family and friends - they love to hear the little one sing anything. >>
