Hi all

I've searched a lot through the forum, but despite reading lots I'm faced with a dead audrey :( and so I have to ask for help :) I'm trying to think this through laterally but not getting very far!

I'm the UK and I bought it new via ebay USA. When I received it, I started it up a few times using a stepdown transformer and it seemed to work ok.

As I'm in Uk I then mod'ded the PSU to take 240v a la http://www.ivor.it/audrey/. Noting the output voltages were a little different without load: 3.0v and 6v, not 3.3 and 5v exactly when it was in 120v configuration, I booted it a few times then started letting the audrey run through updating itself via the IP /DNS spoofing method hoping to find a server. During this process I wasnt sure it had progressed as I'd left it for a long time and seen no response. I turned it off and now it won't restart at all.

Up to this point I'd noted that it wouldn't start up 1 out of 4 attempts without leaving it off for 30mins and so had a vague idea something wasnt quite right.

I hear no sounds, no response from holding any key down on boot, no LCD backlight, no "3com" boot screen..nada. I have checked for dry joints on the daughterboard - seem ok. The only sign of life is when I turn it off, I hear a little powering down pop/ squeak from the speakers.

I've tried to make a flash card to boot it from, but even if I havent got the size correct, it wont get as far as responding or rejecting the card anyway. I haven't been able to back the original image up as of course I never got as far as a shell either.

Please, can anyone provide me some clues and perhaps a more logical path to investigating & solving the problem? Is this likely to be hardware or software? Is it the IPL is trashed, or is the 'half wave' psu mod risky and have a trashed my audrey before I've even got it going properly? Am I destined to be audrey-less and have to give it up before I've even begun:(

Sorry for so many questions but as you can see I'm reaching for help and I have tried to rectify it myself as far as poss..

Cheers in advance, any suggestions very welcome. Iain

ps I've reverted the PSU back to 120v - no change.

Hi all

trying to avoid hassling with <Bump>

I've re-made all the joints on the power connector block on the motherboard, no joy there. Has anyone else overcome similar problems or should I chuck the audrey away? I might be able to re-use the case for a mini-itx PC next year but that seems such a shame.

Cheers in advance if anyone can advise which steps I should take to try and get audrey going

Iain

Hi,

I am in belgium and just have made the power block mods with success. I have no problems with booting the audrey but somethimes mine hangs too. Unplugging the power for more than one minute helps. The CF boot method also isn't working for me. So I am trying to upgrade the audrey first with the DNS spoof method, but I can't find a working site anymore. Can someone point me to a working spoof and update server. Then I will investigate more how a modded audrey will work in Europe.

Greetz,
Nico

I have the same problem. It just started. At times, I have not been able to see a pattern, the Audrey could not be awakend from sleep. Totally unresponsive. Unplugging and then restarting fixed it and all would be fine for a while. Then this procedure did not work anymore. I thought the power supply was bad, but then I heard the sound you describe after unplugging. I thought maybe there is a bootup problem, so I booted from the CF. The Audrey is fully updated. This woeked Ok and then she was fine for a time. Now she died and nothing works anymore. Have not had time to look at it closely, but I am afraid!!
This is not much help other then company in your misery. Hopefully someone more techinically capble has figured something out.
