Is it possible to use the Audrey as a VOIP phone? Is there a Skype client that could be installed on the Audrey? Does the Audrey have the abiliity to function like a speaker phone?

Any ideas?

Audrey's modem is a DATA modem. I will not support voice transmission.

If your using a VOIP client then the transmittion would be data not voice.

i'm bumping this thread. the audrey has a very good mic and speakers and would be awesome as a voip phone. Has anyone attempted this?

The problem is that the processor and memory aren't really up to the task of converting audio analog->digital and back simultaneously. You might be able to do it by stripping out everything but really minimal OS functions and custom VOIP software, but it would probably be easier just to get a dedicated Vonage or Skype device.

Yes, with that new Vonage on a USB stick deal, all you need to do is plug it into any WinXP computer with internet access and be able to call/talk anywhere.

However, I agree, the Audrey's mic and speakers are very good quality. The only thing is Skype tends to use high bitrate codecs so for the Audrey to do bot in and out DAC simultaneously would push the limits. If your Audrey is overclocked to 333Mhz, you shouldn't have a problem tho. ;)
