fs-cifs woes
fs-cifs no longer works

once upon a time, I shared directories on a win2kpro box with Audrey.

In my /kojak/boot.sh file was the command

/nto/bin/fs-cifs -av //kitty:192.168.1.xxx:/MP3 /MP3 audrey rocks
where kitty is the name of the win2k box followed by its IP address then the name of the directory on the windows box followed by the directory on audrey then the user id on the windows box and its password. I did not play with Audrey for a long time. Now I have more spare time since I closed a side business, but the fs-cifs fails. If I key the command manually, I get a connection refused message in the term window on Audrey. I have shared the directory on the windows box, allowed everyone full access to the directory, changed registry values to not insist on a password and still no luck. Something has changed, but I can't see it. Any ideas? (Audrey surfs the web just fine.)

The only thing I can see in you command line is to maybe seperate the -av commands, so your command would look like this...

fs-cifs -a -v //kitty:192.168.1.xxx:/MP3 /MP3 audrey rocks

Other than that I'd look at the Windows end. Are you able to share from any other machine?

Audreyupgrade,
Thanks for the idea, but I had already tried that. The thing that is driving me bonkers is the windows machine sees nothing on the network, Nor do my other machines see it. On the network I currently have two audreys (have 3 more in closet), one at the router and the other through a powerline adapter at the other end of the house. Additionally I have a SUSE 9.3 box (no samba turned on yet) and a windows media center box, and 2 wireless laptops. I haven't tried looking with the laptops, they are our "work" machines and are used to VPN to email. Come to think of it I don't think any of the boxes can see each other. That's what happens when you get a bit of time here and there to play. It is probably long past time to off load files to optical discs, format and start over.
On a different topic...
How did you guys do the wireless mod? I thought about taking a linux driver for the Prism chipset and recompiling for QNX, but it looked like more than my limited hacking skills could tackle what with the added fun of USB. I realize that there are some potential intellectual property issues in asking, and I respect that if you can't answer. I was looking more for the flowchart version if that helps.
Thanks,

Our Wi-Fi upgrade is a hardware solution for a wireless Audrey. It incorporates our Broadband upgrade which puts all needed hardware inside Audrey's case and adds an extremely small wireless network bridge to the back of Audrey. All needed adapters, power and wiring have been integrated into the Audrey so that no wires are coming into the Audrey except the original power cord. Looking at the Audrey, except from the back, you wouldn't know that it was networked or wireless as the upgrade integrates most needed items for a very clean look.

Thanks for the description of the wireless upgrade!

I did make some progress last night. Turned on Samba on the Linux box and Audrey can get there. The Media Center Edition box can see the Linux box too. Meanwhile the Win2k box can't see anything and nothing gets to it. I am leaning towards there is some registry setting that has gotten changed over time with the various firewall products I have tried that is preventing anything from hitting the Win2k box and it from seeing anything but browser info. Time to pull out the Resource Guide and look. I will work on this a few more days and see if I can find it. I will post under a new topic to describe the fix such that it is easily found. Then others won't have to go thru the pains of finding it. If I can't find it, then it is format time for the Win 2K box.

I have not concluded the root cause (other than loose nut at the keyboard). My best guess is it was a series of registry settings involving Server Message Block (SMB) settings. I decided instead to try the age old Microsoft solution of reinstalling the operating system and it worked. fs-cifs now works and I can stream MP3s around the house via the powerline network. I did discover that if you use the -vv option with fs-cifs that the verbose output is MUCH more detailed. AUDREY ROCKS! (again)
