Are any of the old guard still around these boards?

I see that Jukebox's last post was in 2003 and others like Infinity were 2004.

Is there anybody still around here that's actively researching the Audrey?

Just wondering because I just got my first one and I'm just wondering if there's anybody still around here to give me pointers on things or if I'll have to figure it all out myself (not that I'm opposed to doing that necessarily.)

Guess I'm just wondering if anybody is still around here...

I think most of those guys have moved on, but if you don't mind waiting a couple weeks for a response there are probably still people available to help.

Been around for a while and have 7 Audreys running on my home network. Not at the level of the guys you referenced but will help you as much as I can. Other are here now and then will help also. Just ask a question and let all know what you are wanting to do.

Well, here's what I'm wanting to do...

I have an audrey and a 32Meg flash card so I can flash new images with no problem.

I'd like to setup an Audrey with all of the original functonality (e-mail, web, addresses, schedule). A notepad would also be a welcome addition.

However, I'd like to also update any of the components that have newer versions. For example, a newer copy of voyager instead of the original Browser, and phPostal instead of the original Mail application.

I don't own any Palm devices, so synching isn't important as far as that goes. However, I do have a T-Mobile Sidekick that has my schedule on it so eventually I might try to write a synch program with that.

However, at the moment, I'd just like to come up with an image for the Audrey that has the original functions, but updated as much as possible.

What I don't want is to have it boot into the "shelf" which I'm really not fond of although I can see the advantages of being able to call up the shelf if needed.

So, I was thinking of flashing the Audrey with the Jukebox Audrey on Steriods image to get the address_book and Calendar applications which I can copy to a shared drive. Then I can flash it with an updated image to get Voyager and phPostal. I can copy the original address_book and calendar back to the Audrey and hook them back up to the hard-buttons.

Does any of this sound like something I can accomplish without too much effort?

With infinity's ultimate image I was able to remap the buttons pretty easily. But that was because he had these scripts that are editable to change the application that opens. I think I looked in another image (maybe jukebox, maybe mraudrey) and there was nothing like this included, but it has been a while, so I am not sure. If you need to get those applications you could try buying another one off ebay, and asking the seller if its modded. From what I have read, no one has an original audrey image available. If its just the look of the updated images that you don't like, there is a recreation of the original background available somewhere, I think you can disable the toolbars, and then you can make all the applications you still need access to available from the paste+enter menu.

I have an original un-moded Audrey, but it freezes at the welcome screen. I have no idea how to flash it, or if that will fix it. If that will help you, let me know. I would love to get it working again, but don't know anything about this stuff. I am just trying to find out if there was a way to get it working again.

Well, no matter what you do it seems that you won't be able to flash it back to a "vanilla" Audrey.

The only OS versions that seem to be out there are ones that have been hacked to include other things.

Although I do have one Audrey that came with an image that has all of the original software + the terminal window. It seems to be the closest to an original Audrey that I'm liable to find.

The other Audrey I have came with a much newer image on it with an updated front-end (and everything else).

I'm going to try to hack out a new image that has the best of both worlds. The original Audrey's functionality and "look-and-feel" with an updated web browser, e-mail client, Caller-ID, FTP server, etc.

We'll see how far I get...

Hmmm. I bought two Audreys back in the day when Overstock.com was dumping them. I believe I spent a few hours flashing one of them so that I could get a bash prompt, and I believe the other was never touched.

I looked into this board just now because I was curious to see if anything interesting is still being done with them; in a couple of months I'll probably have time to pull them out of the basement and start fiddling.

So, I suppose I have an unaltered image in one of 'em. Question is, how to get it out???

I'm not too sure about the entire process for this, but here is what I have gathered:

You will probably have to do method 3 on this page:
http://www.audreyhacking.com/wiki/index.php/Getting_shell

Once you get shell up, you can run the commands to backup the image to cf, and then it could be flashed to another audrey.
http://www.audreyhacking.com/wiki/index.php/Making_CF_Images

The problem with this is that I believe this image is still copyrighted. I think that is why no one ever posted these images for download. So, I would be careful about where you post it if you manage to get it off the audrey.
