New to Audrey - What Image to use? My plans

Hi all. I am about to pickup an Audrey (hopefully) and would like to set it up for use in my kitchen. My first question is.. what image should I use as a base?? Here are my requirements

Voyager Web Browser
MP3 Player
Picture Frame Screen Saver (Random pictures)
Notepad for handwritten notes

Off the top of my head I cant think of anything else I would need. I would love to be able to mount a USB flash drive but it sounds like that isnt possible. If anyone knows anything about that let me know.

Some of the plans that I have are:

Try to install the ethernet connection inside the Audrey box
If possible install a Mitsumi WAVIT11 internal
Make a custom metal under cabinet mount
Write a custom web based application for the kitchen (shopping lists, recipes, etc) for the audrey screen size
Maybe overclock (depends on how the speed is without it)

Any advice or ideas on any of this would be really helpful. I'll also try to document some of this if anyone cares

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

I like Infinity's Ultimate image. I think it has the nicest interface and feature set. It has all of the things you are looking for and a lot more.

For the web based application, I have been working on something that has addresses, phone numbers and recipes. The shopping list was a possibility, but I have not tried to add it. My script is written in PHP 4 with mysql as the database. I just finished writing the install script so it is easier to setup. Let me know if you would like to try it.

I would be very interested in trying out your application instead of starting over. I do a good bit of PHP development so I would be interested in helping you out as well if you needed (adding the shopping list etc). I am picking up my new Audrey tomorrow and I'll probably start with some hardware hacking first but I'll have to play around with the software a bit I am sure.

I also have decided to try out the D-Link DWLG730AP instead of the WAVIT11 since it looks like I can power it via a USB port. Any experience with that by chance?

Thanks for the reply.

I would be very careful about what you tried to power off the USB. It may be the right voltage, but it may be drawing too much power. I sent you a link to a demonstration of the script. I am currently working on adding some extra functionality, so if you want to help it would be great.

Slightly OT, but I have had an Audrey for almost 2 years and have never been able to devote enough time to making it do exactly what I want it to do. Is anyone available to customize my CF for me for a few bucks?

I want a static IP address, go to my internal time server, channel knob tied to the filmstrip (I have my icons too) of links I already have set, and mp3 player that respects m3u playlists that exist on a smb share.

Can anyone hook me up? I have a 2-year-old and an infant, so my time to hack the Audrey right has dropped to zero....

Thanks.
