Audrey ~ Network
Lost my (wired) network connection

Hello All,

I hope you can offer some assistance for me on my Audrey issue. I search through the threads, but couldn't find any specific for my Network issue. Most seem to be related to wireless setups. My appologies please if I've duplicated another thread.

Here's my issue:

I have an Audrey that I flashed several years ago with one of the CF's from Audrey Hacking.com (dont remember which one - the basic one). All was well, until a few months ago, when the Audrey lost its connection to my network. Shows the "not connected", and taping on the "connect" button has no effect (can't tell if the button link is bad or the actual connection somehow) (see a snapshot at http://www.jebswebsite.com/misc_pics/audrey_net_settings.jpg).

Network setup: I'm using the popular 3Com USB NIC, connected via CAT5 to my Linksys WRT54GS Router. The network connection works when I plug in my laptop (via the network port - not with the USB NIC).

The Settings in my "Advanced Information" in the "Browser Settings" are as follows:

Use USB Ethernet - checked
Use PPP/DHCP - checked
IP Address, Netmask, Gateway - unchecked (grayed out)
Host Name: Audrey
Pri DNS: 192.168.0.1
Sec DNS: 192.168.0.2
Note - I do not recall every manually inserting any of the "Host Name" and "DSN" numbers. Nor do I know what these are actually relating too? Are they for my network, or for some old Audrey updating? Are they important to my actual network connection? My network Router is setup with my pcs DNS #s as 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101, 192.168.1.102, etc. and my Network name is "Home Network". Is this what should be listed here?

I replaced my Router a few months ago, but don't remember if the trouble started before or after. Could it be related?

I could not find any threads that show actual network settings for the Audrey. Anyone that can offer some assistance on these settings would be apprecated:

1. What should the Host Name and DNS numbers be (if they are important at all for the actual network connection)?
2. What other settings should I be looking at for issues?

Cordially...Chugbug

You probably want to hard code an address into your audrey, something like 192.168.1.10. Since your DHCP starts at 192.168.1.100 you should be fine with that.

Find out what settings your laptop has for DNS/Gateway and set them the same manually on your Audrey.

My guess is your Audrey network settings would look something like this:

IP : 192.168.1.10
Gateway : 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Primary DNS : 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS : pick one from your laptop's ip config and put here

Probably started when you changed routers. Your old router was probably configured at 192.168.0.1

You could of course just change your router to boot at 192.168.0.1 and see if all started working again....

Thanks HUGGY! That fixed it!

The thought of the issue starting when I switched routers just came to me as I was writing my initial cry for help. Glad I did! Turns out (as you suggested) that WAS when it started.

It took me a few weeks to get back to it, but when I was finally able to work on it today, I tried hooking up my old router, but I couldn't get it to connect (which is why I replaced it - but thought maybe I'd get one last shot at it). Then I remebered I'd posted my issue here, and came back to check for a response.

Sorry it took a few weeks to get back to you, but thanks! You helped to resolve the issue! Now I don't have to buy my wife a new pc (at least not today!!).

Regards...Chugbug

So glad it is working.

Just curious though.. I provided two very different solutions. Which did you choose? Probably just changed your router to boot at 192.168.0.1 eh? That's what I would have done :)
