cant reach yahoo smtp server ? (modified 0 times) rseidl Profile Sorry if this is painfully obvious to some of you, but I cant figure this out: I have audrey email outgoing set to smtp.mail.yahoo.com which used to work (I sent myself a scribble and voice note) and then it stopped working. At first I thought it was just a transient problem with the yahoo mail server. But it is not. I have configured a Eudora personality and can upload fine into that server (from behind the same router which is on an earthlink network) Audrey just says she cant reach my outgoing mail server. Sounds like it might not be able to obtain the DNS (MX) record for the mail server? Are you able to hook up a sniffer and see the DNS requests, or the attempt to connect to the mail server? Just reconfig audrey for another email account momentarily, do a check email and then go back to the originally wedged (yahoo) account. It will work now. HUH? Anyway. At first I thought it was just yahoo having some problem but this morning when all of last night's email was still in the "send later" list I began to wonder whats going on here. I've pinged smtp.mail.yahoo.com successfully from the audrey, shutdown audrey, powered down audrey, sent mail from my NT machine to yahoo, changed email accounts on audrey, and finally checking this board I was surprised to find this thread. (modified 0 times) Sketchy Profile The earlier poster was correct -- yahoo has a required "authenticate-before-send" system (or whatever it's called), where you have to do a pop3 login and check email before you can send email using their SMTP server. Like the earlier poster said, it's to prevent people using yahoo's smtp server for spamming, since you have to have a legit pop3 account to use it. 10-26-2001 16:51:05

(modified 0 times) pkarp Profile It is true that with yahoo pop3/smtp you have to do a get mail before you can send, however I am certain this is not related to the problem described since I would do a get mail and then try to send. It was only after I cleared the send later list (after all the other stuff I tried) that audrey successfully sent email. 10-26-2001 18:48:19
