Has anyone tried to use the usb port for just a power source. I got an mp3 player today that uses the usb to charge its batteries and to power the mp3 player when plugged in. I havent tried using the Audreys usb port for power since i packaged her up and put her away (messed her up). Not a difficult thing...so if someone can verify that this will work lemme know.

First, let me apologize for bringing a zombie thread like this back from the dead. But I know I read quite a few outdated threads myself on the basis of search results. So allow me a moment to comment upon this one.

I was told that the UBS port would NOT provide voltage unless a device asked for power. I bought this story at first, and later decided it had to be bull####. A device needs power to run, to tell the port that it's been plugged in.

My specific experiment was to build my own USB light for my Audrey. They sell them at stores for about 20 bucks. But you are looking at a light bulb, a USB cable, and a coat hanger. That to me is not worth 20 bucks. So I went into my garage, gathered the junk, and built my own. Works great.

While the USB port may be very limited in usage for the Audrey, it does indeed supply a very steady supply of 5 volts. Remember though, that like a woman, Audrey is delicate and sensative. Abusing her for your power may not be a good idea. There are a lot of 5v power supplies out there.

Yhe USB 1.1 specs allow for 100ma current from both upowered and powered hibs. This is enough power for a USB device to talk (or a LED to light). If a hub is powered, than a device CAN request up to 500ma of curremt.

I tried powering a WET11 with my USB on Audrey - it didn't work very well.

When connecting the EA101 to 1 USB port and connecting the WET11 to the other and then booting Audrey, neither the EA101, nor WET11 would power up - none of the lights came on (but Audrey did power up).

When leaving the EA101 connected and powering up Audrey, it worked fine. Then I'd plug in the WET11 and it'd light up for a little bit, then both of them would lose power again. I don't think Audrey has enough oompf to power them both. The WET11 power supply reads 2A on it - although I'm sure the actual bridge doesn't require that much....but it does seem to require more than Audrey can give.

Does anyone else have similar or better results? Maybe with a wireless bridge, other than the WET11?
