Having trouble with the IR on an Audrey

New MessageIR keyboard reception probleeeeeeeeemsmsmsmsms (modified 0 times) ameyerstein

I've got an Audrey that appears to have problems receiving IR from the keyboard properly. Pretty sure it's the Audrey and not the keyboard because the same keyboard works fine with another Audrey. The unit is flashed with the UpdateWithShellPlus image.

When typing from the keyboard, sometimes Audrey doesn't receive a key unless you press it several times. Sometimes you press a key once and she displays that letter many timesssssssssssssss. Sometimes she repeats two-letter combinationsnsnsnsnsnsns.

It's kinda wierd.

Any ideas?

Yesssssssssss!!!!
I feel like I've found my lonnnnggggg lossstttt cousin!
I was also having this problem, asked all around, no one else had heard of the problem. I have four Audreys and I was setting one up and taking it back and forth from work to home. The same Audrey and keyboard worked fine at work, buttttt atttt home I'd have the problem. This told me that it was not the Audrey, but something in my home environment. I tried for daze to track down what was causing it... then... one day it just stop. Since then It's come back for short periods of time, and I'm not sure, but I think it happens when my wife is using the washer and or dryer which is just one wall away. You might try what I have... as you see the problem, run around the house (nearest rooms first, including current room), turning things off, go back to the Audrey to see if the problem is gone, if not, go turn something else off, etc., etc., etc.
Because it only happens to me a few minutes, maybe once a week now, I've put off the investigation for now. Before, it was nearly constant, and gave me GREAT incentive to solve the problem. Maybe by the time I next hit the board I'll have a final answer to my adventure.

BTW: The keyboard was having this problem at the worst possible time... during the first few daze of getting my Audrey setup. I was using "vi" and having to make every change directly on the Audrey with the small repeatinggggggg keyboard, (Man! "backspace" was a real hassle when it stuck and NUKED the entire line you just typed). Now... I do most of my changes via my Winbloz machine via a mounted drive.

Hope this helps!

Some IR Receivers have an LED that lights for any IR energy it sees.
an example is The SK-7100 IR PC Keyboard
(replacement keyboard for the Gateway/AOL Connected Touch Pad )
It could be helpful to find the source of your problem ?

It took a couple of visits before I realized a friend's
laptop IR port was Jamming my pc keyboard every few seconds.

Of course I found this post five minutes after whining to my eBay seller. My keyboard is fine too.

I have a thick plate glass desk top. I found that the infrared signals can bounce around inside the glass and find other infrared devices that aren't otherwise obviously involved. This caused me no END of confusion. My laptop is also OFF, but that doesn't stop it from chattering the echoes, apparently, either.

I have the glass top problem too. My desk is glass and i was getting odd problems with my typing. It's a real pain when you ar learing an os and typing in long unfamiliar commands. The kayboard starts typing strange things and you think it's a serios problem that the command didn't work UGH!

I have it too sometimes and I'm sure it has to do with the environment. Other devices in and around the house, even the sun can be the cause I believe.
Always handy to have an on-screen keyboard available to finish whatever you are doing at the time.

I'm still having this problem with the Audrey in my bedroom. The thing is I can't find any reflective surfaces that would cause the problem. I've tried moving Audrey off the night table and onto the bed, tried using the keyboard centimeters away from the IR receiver, tried turning on and off the lights, etc. It's weird!

I am told the keyboard problem is due to Audrey's cheap modem as it makes it very sensitive to condition of the phone line. Try disconnecting the modem phone line and see if the problem goes away. If so, your phone line is not as good quality as Audrey expects.

Are you using the USB ethernet. I had the same problem. Try pulling the ethernet cable then typing. If that helps, reboot the audrey without the USB then plug it in.
