Working with Audreys LCD panel!
Just what can you do with that groovy little audrey LCD?

I'm keen to wall mount my LCD & put the guts of Audrey in a box above the ceiling. To do this I'll need to extend the buttons & speakers (which looks pretty easy) and also to extend the flat connection cable to the LCD. I know we have some electronics boffins on the list so perhaps someone could give me a few pointers in the max length of cable run I could do and how to extend the LCD cabling using screened or co-ax.

Cheers,

Scozza.

I'm also looking for suggestions on an alternate 240v PSU. I'm hoping I can use a basic multitap transformer and a simple rectifier/regulator setup!

Cheers,

Scozza.

Scozza,

Check this link to mod your existing PSU for 240V.

http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=3Com_Audrey&Post=738&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=1

My Audreys have been fine with this at 240V/50Hz for over 4 weeks always-on.

Perhaps this should be added to a FAQ - Anyone?

Thanks Matt,

Dunno how I missed that one 0-: I'll mod a PSU & see how I go. Has anyone got any ideas for me on the LCD extension front? I'm assuming there is a limit to the length of the connection to the LCD.

Cheers,

Scozza.

Producing technical info aside, I would suggest a less time consumming approach to your wall mount scheme. Just cut a tailored hole in the drywall and silicon cement the unit in once you have the connections in place. Way less time, trouble and potential for problems developing with time.

Heh! You're not the first person to ask me that question (-; It seems to be a good way to use the technology if you don't want audrey as a free standing unit! reason I wanted to use a cover plate is so I can remove audrey if need be. Now I'm trying to find out if co-ox can be used to replace the ribbon cabel. Has anyone tried anything similar?

Cheers,

Scozza.

I'm half toying gutting my audrey and mounting her in the wall. Scozza, what are you planning to "encase" her in?

I was thinking of a brushed aluminium front panel with allowance for the speakers, and maybe a turned stylus holder. The rest could then be housed in a polycarbonate electrical enclosure up above the ceiling. I have not managed to find any good info. about extending the cables though )-:

Cheers,

Scozza.

All this talk of putting Audrey in the wall or ceiling is creeping me out. I feel like I am reading an Edgar Allen Poe novel. Yikes!
