Hi all. Anybody knows if it would be at all possible to find flash 5 for the audrey (maybe from QNX6.1)? Couldn't find anything about this on that board. Flash 4 is pretty limited...

Flash 5 is not avaliable for that platform. however, there is not really much more that flash 5 can do that flash 4 can't. Flash 4 is jsut a little bit more of a pain to work with.

what did you have in mind?

I was also wondering the same thing. Some sites, mainly children sites all use the current version of flash like www.nickjr.com. It used to be great for the kids to use the touch screen to play their games now that they upgraded their version of flash it no longer works with the QNX based Audrey.

Does ne1 know if there is version that can be ported to QNX or Voyager?

The only paramater I know about voyager pertaining to Flash is FLASHQUALITY
The resolution to use with Macromedia Flash. If this environment variable isn't set, high resolution. is used. To use low resolution, set FLASHQUALITY to LOW -- this uses less CPU processing so it is a bit faster.

The Macromedia Flash Player SDK contains a portable C++ source code version of the Macromedia Flash Player as well as documentation designed to help a third-party software or hardware developer easily port the Macromedia Flash Player to any platform. The Macromedia Flash Player SDK is designed for ease of porting and for platform independence. The code as provided compiles on Win32 and Linux systems.
So it would seem possible that someone could develope it for QNX to work with the Audrey, I am not that savy, but would like to be... So if ne1 out there has a clue what to do or can do it, I am sure it would be appreciated by all.

Has anyone used or contacted Nexwarecorp about their homefusion product?

I was going to use Flash 5 to make some interfaces for mp3 play control of a remote PC as well as control some x-10 apps, but can't now due to the lack of flash 5 plugin for the audrey.

Any work on this would be greatly appreciated.

flash 4 supports mp3 play (as long as they are wrapped in swfs).

where do you set the FLASHQUALITY parameter?

also, do you know if there is a standalone flash player, or do all movies have to be played through the browser?

you should be able to do what you want with flash 4, but it will be a little more of a hassle. as soon as i get my audrey to update, i am going to start playing around with flash on it. that is the single reason i got my audrey in the first place.

If anyone has any luck with a Flash5 please let me know too...I've got three kids and three-plus Audrey's (all updated to 4/2001 - thanks Audrey supporters!) but have the same complaint...there are crucial sites (in the kids minds) like nickjr.com that will NOT run without Flash5 support--arggghh!

It's probably true that flash 4 can do pretty much what we want, but from a programmer's point of view, flash 5 has an edge. I got interested in flash only with version 5 because of it's more extensive programming abilities. Before, web designers could do all the work themselves, now they sometimes need a programmer for special features, or optimization. Also, from personal experience, people are now programming a lot more in 5 exclusivelly. It's not always obvious, because we might still see some of the action/graphics viewing these sites with flash 4, but I doesn't work properly.

I found this post on Macromedia's site:

So if anyone really wants this we should check with the Macromedia and QNX developers
