Possible Power-up Failure Fix (Wallwart)
Possible Power-up Failure Fix (Wallwart)

Recently one of my Audreys decided it didn't want to power-up anymore. After short diagnostics I figured out it was the Wallwart no longer functioning. Well the rest of the post is how I managed to fix this problem and what was happening. Forgive me for any incorrect technical terminology used.

Once you open up the wallwart you'll want to make sure you realize which way the circuit board was possitioned inside. Anyway, my problem was that the plug part that gets a connection from the socket and relays this connection to the board wasn't getting a good connection. It appears that the electricity had actually been arcing from the back of the plug to the board causing burns on the back of the plugs metal connectors and actually melting the solder on the board.

Anyway, if you look on the board where there are a sequence of I think it was about 3 solder joints and then 5 solder joints all in a row. Anyway, all you need to do is make sure a better connection is getting through these connections. I applied more solder to both sets of connections on the board and a tiny bit to fix the burns on the back of the plug. NOTE: make sure you do not make a connection between the 3 and 5 pin sets as this will just connect the cirtuit in a circle and short it all out, they need to remain independent and not connected! Then put the wallwart back together and it worked as good as new.

Hope this helps other people or people that get a DOA audrey.

Nice info. I haven't had a problem with any of my 6 Audreys yet but there is a history of P/S failures so will use your info to check the P/S's out. Thanks

I purchased an Audrey on eBay which I received earlier this week. If you barely touch the power cable or move Audrey ever-so-slightly it cuts off. After jiggling and reseating the power plug into the Audrey it eventually starts up, again.

With permission of the seller (who promises to take it back if I cannot fix the problem), I opened it up and found that the cube-shaped Amphenol socket seemed to be soldered firmly and cleanly to the small connector board. I didn't see any signs of arching, pitting, or cold-solder joints.

I put Audrey back together and I still have the problem. My strong suspicion is that the Amphenol socket is faulty. It would be a bear to unsolder and replace.

Just how robust is this connector on the Audrey?

Has anyone else had my experience?

What, if anything, was done to fix it?
