Just starting a new thread for the Compaq IPAQ IA-2
There seem to be quite a few IA-2 still being sold like crazy on
ebay.
Yet I can't find any success in hacking the IA-2.
1) No CF to creat a boot from.
2) Problems with the VGA standard used by the motherboard
3) And althought there's a IDE port AND a "Erase BIOS" jumper, there's been no success booting anything.
There is some discussions about burning on the DiskOnChip that's included but unfortunately no explaintion as to why.
Would someone be kind enough to write what they HAVE successfully done with it, or any ideas how I can burn an image onto the DiskOnChip?
If it helps anyone with anything here's the text we get when plugging any externally powered HD with Windows Boot images onto the IDE port (tried 1G, 4G and 30G HD's all with the same result
"TrueFFS-BIOS --Version 3.3.7 for DiskOnChips 2000 (V1.23) Copyright (C) M-Systems, 1992-2000
INCORRECT BOOT DEVICE!!!!
PLEASE POWER OFF THE SYSTEM, REPLACE THE BOOT DEVICE THEN REBOOT THE SYSTEM"
If we try the remove the DiskOnChip I only get the:
"INCORRECT BOOT DEVICE!!!!
PLEASE POWER OFF THE SYSTEM, REPLACE THE BOOT DEVICE THEN REBOOT THE SYSTEM"
I haven't tried booting off a Windows boot image from a CD plugged into there (Don't know if that would be a "CORRECT" boot device.
There seems to be no need to get onto the bios because if something is plugged into the IDE port it seems to take priority ove the DiskOnChip.
Thank you for your response.
Your response how-ever usefull will be added to IA2Hacking.com just in case that get's any more hits than here (just kidding)
